Dilute Calico

Joop loves to lay near the heater and sleep in bed with us. She also like toys and going in the dishwasher. And hunting...she's always pouncing on something!

She's not too fond of being picked up. And she won't sit in my lap.

Favorite Toy:
The big plastic target bag, but she pretty much loves all toys.

Favorite Nap Spot:
By the heater or in her bed in the closet.

Favorite Food:
Science Diet dry and wet kitten food, in seperate bowls, both mixed with a little warm water.

She's a great hunter!

Arrival Story:
We knew we wanted a kitten since long before we actually moved in together. My family has a cat, and I miss him since I've moved to New York. My boyfriend's family cat passed away last year. We always talked about getting a kitten and naming him/her Joop, after some graffiti we see around our neighborhood. We moved in together in August, and on Christmas day (I was in Virginia) Matt called to say that he went to a shelter to get a kitten but they had to meet me first. He wanted to surprise me, but since that wasn't possible, he was giving me a heads up that we would go back there as soon as I returned to New York. Well I came home right away!! I was so excited, and I spent the next day obsessively researching adopting and caring for kittens. I made a list of 4 shelters and their days/hours of adoption, printed out some adoption applications, and tried to be patient...most of them were weekends only (it was a Tuesday.) I decided to check craigslist ooonnee last time, and there was a post from a place called Social Tees Animal Rescue on 4th St. in the city. The post said to come adopt a cat or kitten today from 3 to 7pm. It was almost 3, and Matt was getting off work at 4. I called him and said I'd meet him at his building, I found a place we can visit today! We went down there and they were very friendly and helpful. We filled out an application, asked some questions, petted some cats, and picked two kittens that we seemed to have an instant attraction to. Joop was in the back of the shelter, they said she had pneumonia and lost an eye. When we held her, she was very friendly and cute and loving. She was exactly what we were looking for in a kitty! We both knew right away that we wanted to take her home!

Joop is 5 months old, born sometime in late July/early August. She was listed as a stray. I'm not sure how she lost her eye, but it was somehow connected to her bout of pneumonia. We brought her home along with her friend Boo.

Blindness & Boo:
I put that she is blind, but to clarify, she is only half blind! She is missing an eye but she has no idea. She can still see well with the other one :) We brought her home with a 3 month old kitten, Boo. At first they ignored each other, but after a few days they are starting to become friends :)
