Arrival Story:
One Wednesday night, about 10:30, as I was getting ready for bed, I heard the unmistakable shriek of a kitten in distress. It was pouring down rain (and had been for over a week) but I went outside and at last located the horiffic sounds coming from waaaaay up in the top of a pine tree in my front yard. I couldn't see the kitten, only hear this desperate cry for help. For several hours, I tried to coax the creature down from the tree with no luck, so I went to bed, determined that I would get up early and find the kitten. Next morning, I got up as soon as it was light and lo and behold, the kitten was no longer in the tree. I could tell from the sound the night before that it wasn't a big cat, and not being the type to just let it go "Oh, well, the kitty's gone, so my responsiblity ends here," I looked and called (meowed) until I found the thing in a patch of briars behind my neighbor's house. After work, I went out with all my "cat catching" gear -- food (smelly stuff like tuna) and a "fishing pole" -- a long metal tube with a string on the end and feathers tied to the end of that -- and a chair. I spent four hours coaxing the little darling close enough to grab her. She's been with me since. I believe she might have been eight weeks old at the time.

First of all, you pronounce the name sa-OOOO-da. It's Swahili for "Dark Beauty" -- at least that's what the website I found said. Usually, I just call her Evil -- 'cause like all kittens, she's up to no good (when she's awake) and stirring up all kinds of trouble!

R.I.P. Medusa the Lizard

Little did mom know that, as she was reading that diary entry I'd made about getting the lizard that it was happening while she was at her workplace on Friday. When she got home, the top was off the aquarium where she lived, and she found her under the big computer desk. She was still alive -- and she survived until last night, when mom found her dead when she got home.

She can't *prove* it was me who helped her escape -- she can't even prove that I was the one who bit her and put out one of her eyes...but she's pretty suspicious. She was not happy, needless to say, but she can't really punish anybody without knowing who to punish.

I'm sorry I made my mom sad. I just wanted to play with it -- I didn't mean to *kill* it.

I just wish she'd let me play with that lizard ONE TIME! Just for a *little while*! She smells so interesting and she looks so fast! I bet we could have a nifty race around the house. I don't think it's going to happen, though.

You know, our mom had a hamster. His name was Pippin, and she'd had him since before I came to live here. I heard her tell somebody that he was quite old for a hamster. Apparently they don't live too long. Mom wasn't sure what happened exactly, but he just started going downhill in the last month.Wednesday night he was really sick...he wouldn't eat or drink any water. He just laid on his puff of white quilting bedding and squeaked a little and gasped for breath. It made my mom very sad. She crushed up part of some kind of pill and disolved it in a drop or two of water, and gave it to him in a dropper. She said she couldn't bear to watch him be in pain. After she gave him the few drops of liquid, in just a little bit he went to sleep and didn't wake up. She buried him in the front yard next to Merry, his mate.

Mom says he's gone someplace called Rainbow Bridge, where he'll wait for her to come for him and take him to Heaven. She says someday I may go there, too, but I must wait patiently, because she won't ever forget about me and she'll come for me some day and then we will be together always. She told me no animals are ever sick or hurt there and they have all the food and water they want, and shelter and sunshine and toys to play with if they want them. It sounds like a pretty sweet place. I don't think I'll mind waiting there for mom -- as long as she doesn't make me wait TOO long!

Do you suppose chasing lizards and hamsters will be against the rules there, too?

My new toy ROCKS!

Mom brought home a new toy for me...okay, okay, for ALL of us (mostly it's mine). It's a long black plastic stick and on the end it has a long streamer of leopard print velour fabric, the end of which is split into three pieces. There's some kind of magic box at the end where the fabric is tied on to the plastic rod, and when it's waved through the air (or attacked vigorously enough) it makes chirping noises. MAN, I LOVE THIS TOY!! I've killed it *hundreds* of times in the last couple of days.

Raven and Sirius like it, too, and I let them play with it a little bit. Zoe is such a soon as it starts making that chirpy noise, she runs like her tail is on fire. Dumb ole kitten ::cat smirk::
