even with his injuries, he is able to use his litter box. i consider that a special skill!
We first met Stinky about 2 years ago, in 2007. He began to come around the feeding station to have for our other outside cats...The Marina Catz.
They eventually tolerated him and would allow him to eat--after they were all finished. He understood this and accepted it and always waited in the background until the others were finished.
On November 13, 2009, Stinky crawled back home to us. We think he was hit by a car and was in serious need of immediate help.
i have never been able to touch him so that day was no exception. As i tried to approach him and assess his injuries, he went further away from me, dangerously near the rocks and the water below.
i had no choice but to call Animal Care and Control. By the time they arrived, Stinky was lying inside an igloo on a heating pad and was easily caught. He was put into a cage in the back of a van and taken away. i cried as i watched him being driven away. i made several phone calls and finally found where he was. My husband and i went to visit him on that Saturday and his flat ears perked up when i whispered his name. That was the only sign i needed to set the wheels in motion to spring him from jail.
He was seen by a vet, but given no treatment for his injuries. Pffffft.
It took me until the following Tuesday to adopt him out of the shelter, but i did! i found a vet who is treating him for whatever donations i am and will be able to raise...a blessing indeed.
Stinky has a fractured pelvis, a dislocated right hip and no sensation in his right leg/foot at all. The vet who treated him said to take him home and let him rest for awhile and come back in a month to check his progress and neuter him. This day is tomorrow, December 17, 2009.
i have been caring for him in a large dog crate since that Tuesday and things are going along fine...except i still cant get near him and he still hisses and spits at me when i open the cage door.
Getting him in his carrier for the trip to the vet tomorrow morning should be fun???
