Arrival Story: I found Gibbs and his sister, Abby, on Petfinder.com, and it was stated that they were very bonded and needed to be adopted together. Gibbs has lynx point markings on his face and Snowshoe markings on his feet. He also has beautiful pale blue eyes that have been difficult to get good photos of as yet. His mother was feral, and she and another sibling kitten were altered and returned to the feral community because they could not be socialized with people. Gibbs was quite shy at first, but he was also very protective of his sister. We had them in our small bathroom for about 2 weeks, until they became friendlier with me. I was spending time with them several times a day, and our other kitten, Mater, heard them through the door and stuck his paw under the door and verbally let them know he was there. From then on, Mater assisted with Gibbs and Abby's socialization. I moved them to our smallest bedroom for about 2 or 3 weeks, and I let in other cats to visit, usually one at a time. I took them on little trips to other parts of the house, and we gradually increased the time they spent out of their room. Then they were able to be out and about all of the time, and they have become so very friendly, especially with me. They will climb into my husband's lap if he has food they are interested in, and they will seek pets and scritches from him too. They are very, very food focused now that they are out with the rest of us all of the time. They are showing more independence now and not always hanging together as they did at first, but they still play and nap together quite a bit. Gibbs and Abby both are friends with Mater, and I have missed a few opportunities to get a picture of the three of them napping together.
Gibbs does come up on our bed when I am getting ready to go to sleep, and he will nap or sleep there most of the night. I am looking forward to his growing up into a big, beautiful adult cat. Since Shadow has re-joined the family, Gibbs has been playing tussle with him a lot. They are becoming good buddies.
