I've been having some diarrhea episodes, which usually means I've eaten something I shouldn't have. Generally, that's fish. My tummy can't tolerate it. But Mom has been feeding me the usual stuff, so she was mystified.

But then she picked up some cans from the pantry and looked. FISH! Varieties that used to have no fish now have fish! What's going on here?

She suspects that with corn and soybeans having become so expensive, the usual meats like chicken and beef have become costlier (they certainly have in the supermarket). So maybe the pet food makers are looking for cheaper sources of protein.

This week she checked the labels of everything she normally buys for us at PetSmart and ended up with only four canned foods that have no fish, are affordable, and we'll eat. Only one of those is also grain- and gluten-free, so she went online to see what else she could find.

She ordered Nature's Variety beef, chicken and lamb formulas. Grain- and fish-free. With free shipping, it's competitive with the newly limited selection she can get at Petsmart, but it ain't cheap by any means. Anybody have any experience with it? Will I like it?

We have similar problems buying foods too. The boys have to get Urinary tract health foods and Zoe has food allergies too. Plus you want to feed your babies right but be able to afford it. SIGH...I spend a lot of time looking at labels in Petsmart. I thank I'm happy with their food situation for right now but Gris is starting to become extremely picky. So aggravating!

Hopefully, you've got the right stuff now.

Tig likes the chicken & rabbit. It has been hard enough to keep track of all the labels before, and you just know some companies are gonna try & substitute ingredients. I have seen that in alot of food, it lists chicken food, and in the ingreds fish or fish meal.
