This past Saturday I returned to my old vet and had blood and urine taken from me. They ran a pancreas panel, and are testing something in my pee. I don't know why they wanted it, but they did.
It was upleasant, and i had to go on the way home, and peed in the carrier. Daddy gave me a bath.
On the plus side, I have been having chicken daily, whenever I want just about. Mommy got a whole bunch of chicken breasts on sale without the skin or bones-and she has been steaming them for me-well, we all get some, which make the others happy! I couldn't believe in my wildest dreams that I could have chicken whenever I want.
Mommy is worried about me, and she and Daddy just want to know what the issue is. Mommy thinks that I might have pancreatitis, or that it could be my liver issues. She's somewhat frustrated that no vet seems able to figure out what's going on, but she told the vet that since I had a sonogram already, she thinks that running another one that costs so much money is something they should do only if it's really felt that it will show something-Mommy had asked a third vet who has alot of experience about the company that was used for the sonogram is good. Little Vet feels they miss things, but this other vet stated he had used them for 10 years, and they hadn't missed anything he knew about. Daddy is leaning towards getting it done anyway, he feels that he wants to know, and thinks that whatever they can find out is a good thing, but Mommy feels that the sonograms never showed anything conclusive in Bella or Natalie, and is waiting to see what is going on.
I don't have the appetite I once had, though I love chicken and with the pepcid in my tummy do seem to feel better. I can't eat the thing I once did, the days of having a cast iron tummy are over-ah, saying goodbye to not having fried chicken and fish.....sigh.
But there are worse things, I guess, and when Daddy dropped a piece of fried chicken-the inside part-on the floor by accident and I scooped it up and ate it, I threw up awhile later. Mom says we're going to probably be joining the IBD.net website, as she thinks Auntie Lisa, who runs the site is 'brilliant'.
Today is a chilly, grey day here in NY, and I'm on Mommy's comforter on the bed. Yesterday was warmer, and I miss the sun-yesterday I was on the little table mommy put next to the window with a comforter on it, and I napped there most of the day. Today I'm just too chilly, I want to be where I can be warm.
Ah, well, it's naptime....purrs to every fur and good thoughts to all your folks!
love and light,

WeBees sending a huge load of our purrs, too.
Oh Ruffy, I hate that you might be getting some of the stuff I had. But let me tell you, mom has learned A LOT since I was sick and we can recommend a lot of things for you! they need to run what's called a PLI blood test to tell if it's pancreatitis. Yes, an ultrasound will show that also if read by a licensed and experienced ultrasounagrapher. NO more fried anything for you! Very dangerous! And didn't they do a blood panel to check your liver values? My mommy is getting mad just typing this. she thinks these are pretty standard things they should be doing.
Hi Alex, my good sweet Angel,
I know, I know, I ask and ask for some 'human food' like Daddy used to make when we took our road trip-the fried fish and stuff and he says 'no, Ruffy-you have your steamed chicken, you can't complain.' Steamed in just a bit of water, no skin or anything but chicken.
They did run just those tests.
The sonogram was done at the vet mommy 'transferred' me to, but daddy did not feel that vet was giving him the answered he needed, so daddy took me back to Natalie's vet. She wanted to run the sonogram again, but it's expensive, and yes, the sonogram at the vet mommy tranferred me to showed that I have cysts on my liver that are 99 per cent of the time benign. The vet mommy was using stated that my FIV+ status has affected my liver, and there is some blood pooling at the front of my liver. He did not see any inflammation of the pancreas, but DID explain to mommy that my age-he thought I was about 13 or so and my FIV+ status was a contributing factor. Mommy got me demarin to take, but it seems to not agree with me. Mommy is looking for anther thing for me to take-mommy and daddy both think soemthing isn't being caught.
There was no sign of fatty liver disease, and I am eating, even with a bit of the cyproheptadine, which mommy gives me just a bit of, but which also seems to help with any congestion I have-I've always had allergies and we have an air purifier going here too.
We are waiting to hear back on the blood work, which did include the test you are talking about regarding the pancreas. Mommy and Daddy are both worried, Mommy said she would repeat the sonogram-but she feels that she needs to know what could be going on-is this liver, stomach, what? She is wondering if there is something they aren't seeing.
Mommy makes a whole chicken breast for me, and I am eating that, along with some fancy feast chunky chicken or turkey food. Mom's been trying to introduce a grain free chicken or turkey food, but so far, no luck....
Okay so that clears things up a little more. I forgot about your FIV. Sorry sweetie, me and mommy now talk to hundreds of kitties every day. Mommy's brain is mush, MOL. Anyway, I was wondering if you've thought about trying a raw food diet since you seem to love chicken so much. Raw food in it's pure form (needs to be supplemented and your mom would have to learn, but she's smart, she can do it), helps reintroduce the enzymes to the system that are lost. Also, mom now recommends human grade probiotics because we found a study that says that pet ones don't contain nearly enough flora or even the right kind. Mom can recommend one specifically that she's been giving to Finney and Lacey and recommends to other kitties. You could probably also use some digestive enzymes, we can recommend one for that too.
still purrin' for you Ruffy... eat more cheeken!
Thank you Alex, we would love to know...my blood panel is back. NO sign of Pantreatitis at all. Some changes in my kidneys and my liver. Next step might be a needle asperate biopsy....
Mommy sometimes feeds me raw beef and pork, but she's tried the commercial 'raw' dies and I won't eat them. Yuck-I am not going to eat things iwth vegatables in them or apples!
Anything you could suggest, Mommy will try!
Ruffy mom is going to send your mom some info on FB because it's just too much of a pain here to put links and we have a few.
