Arrival Story:
Ovid was rescued from a barn at a horse farm in upstate New York in early June, 2009. He was 5 weeks old at the time. I was at home one day when my girlfriend called me up and said, "we caught this kitten in the barn, you have to keep him!" He was caught approximately one year after a trap-neuter-release initiative was conducted in the barn. It is suspected that the reason this TNR failed is because people tend to drop their unwanted cats off at unsuspecting farms. So, even after all the cats in the barn were caught and neutered, new cats were brought to the farm by unknown owners. Ovid was one of many who were the result.

Bio:
At seven months, Ovid was diagnosed with mild hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. The vet felt that we were very lucky to have caught it early. We had been playing with him one evening, when I noticed that, after about 5 minutes of chasing the laser light, he came off panting. Since I knew that cats are not supposed to pant, I suspected that there was a problem. Sure enough, an ultrasound confirmed my suspicion. He was put on atenolol and scheduled for a six month follow up. At the six month ultrasound, it was found that his readings were much improved, and that the atenolol had been very effective. It's been almost a year since first being diagnosed, and I'm happy to say that Ovid is still doing very well. We give him a pill pocket with his atenolol every night, and he feels very special about it!
