Arrival Story:
My boss told me of a beautiful kitten at her vet being offered for adoption, which she described as "white." I went to see her and she was obviously a lynx-point Siamese who was still developing her points. I was told someone else was interested in her, but if they didn't show up in two days I could have her. In the meantime... At this point a tiny, all-black kitten with a stubby crooked tail was handed to me. He was smaller than a beanie baby he was so little, and he cuddled up to my neck and started sucking, purring his little heart out. Obviously, I had to take him home! He had obviously been sleeping in the cat box because he was stinky, and looked like a drown rat when wet and cried the squeakiest most pitiful cry! And yes, two days later, I went back for the Siamese.

Bio:
What they didn't tell me or didn't know was that Smoky had ringworm when I adopted him. It spread to the other cats and inevitably to my neck before I realized what it was; I told my coworkers my kitten gave me a hickey. He also had a cough, and after several months of treatment it was decided it was chronic trachiitis (throat irritation), so he gets medicine every day. Having been the runt of a large litter, he quickly grew to the big boy he is now, and is on diet food to keep him from getting larger; he's always hungry! And he has the biggest gold eyes to stare right through you until he's fed. I've had to develop a force field to block its effect. (Oh, and he still squeaks like he did when he was tiny. And he still loves to cuddle against my neck, but no longer nurses; I had to break him of that to break the cycle of ringworm.) And my big macho boy also startles easily when he sees anything he's not expecting - whether it's a moved piece of furniture, a rug misplaced, a dark spot on the carpet, a spider, an invisible object...
