Arrival Story:
I went to look at a mobile home for rent about 40 miles from my home near the town of Amity. The place was a total dump. I saw a cat run away as I approached. While I was looking around, I heard a funny "meow" in the blackberry bushes. Her eyes are hard to see, as they are kinda cloudy. I talked to her for a long time, and she let me pet her a little. I saw a little house someone had made for her on the porch and knew the landlord knew about her, so I assumed she was being fed and cared for. That weird, plaintive, desperate "meow" always followed by a tiny growl had me wondering, though. I didn't wonder long. I was admiring the bounty of walnuts under a tree on the property when I saw the mostly decomposed remains of a dead cat. I decided right then these cats were not being cared for after all and had been left by their owners to die. So I looked for a box to put this little kitty, who was still following me around meowing, in. I could find nothing. I spent some time winning her trust, then quickly picked her up and put her in the car. She freaked and was bouncing off the windows, scratching wildly. Halfway down the driveway, I decided this wasn't going to work. So I opened the hatch that leads to the trunk and put her in. She quieted right down in the cozy dark. It was a long drive home, where I transfered her, with much difficulty, to a cat carrier, then, with additional difficulty and a lot of scratches, to a bunny cage I had set up for her in the shed. She was not a happy girl. I have left messages with the Yamhill county sheriff and Yamhill county Animal Control. They don't seem to care that she and the other cat were illegally abandoned, as I have received no response.

Bio:
She tested negative for feline leukemia and AIDS. The vet suggested a deep cleaning for her ears, which would cost more than $200. There are also tests he could do on her eyes to make sure they are not getting worse. I have been unemployed since springtime so I'm hoping someone who can afford these treatments will adopt her, though I know it isn't likely.

I know I haven't had any news for a while.
I did lose the tip of my ear in a fight, probably with Raffles. The cat napper who found me said several hundred dollars have been spent on my ears, much of it from kind people who certainly don't want their money wasted, and I shouldn't treat them like crud. I like to fight, though. Anyway, Raffles and I have developed some sort of understanding, it seems. I had a little house with a wool blanket and insulated liner on grandpa's porch, because I was too scared to be inside. but now I use the cat door and go in by myself and flop right down on a chair! Raffles gives me the stink eye sometimes, and we have a tiff, now and then, but for the most part, I have become more of a lazy housecat than a restless feral.

I got my ear cut in a fight. Mommy says I should act like a lady, and not fight all the time. But, I am so good at it. If mommy locks me in, I'll just beat the tar out of Nikolai, Andre, Ming and whatever foster kittens are available. Mommy isn't sure if I have PTSD from being abandoned or if I have brain damage from the ear infection, but she knows I'm one violent kitty. -Amity

a first!

Today I slept on the human bed a little, I never had before. Ming was up there to, but a hill of blankets was between us. Mommy seldom makes the bed, you see, she says it hurts her feet if the blankets are tucked in anyway, so what's the point? Anyhow, I got in bad trouble for attacking Ming yesterday. I attacked her twice, and once, she was helpless hacking out a hairball. I scared her so bad it didn't come up. Mommy says if she gets sick from a retained hairball, she's going to hook me to a cart and make me work off the vet bill hauling loads of manure or something. She sure is good at thinking of jobs for us cats, why can't she think of a job for herself? Hmmm. -Amity
