Arrival Story:
October 14, 2009: Stevie came to us via Blind Cat Rescue of NC. They'd been told about a young cat on 'death row' in Clayton County, GA, near my home. As soon as I saw his Petfinder photos, I knew he had to be saved. Originally, Stevie was going to go to a furever home with a wonderful Catster family...but... Once I brought him home, I was in love! He's a little charmer, so happy and playful and loving. He loves nothing more than cuddling and taking a cat nap. I've never kept a 'shelter name' before, but this little guy is just Stevie! It fits! Welcome home, Stevie!

Stevie was picked up by Animal Control. Imagine someone abandoning a blind kitten!!! Luckily the animal control lady put him on Petfinder very quickly. I got to meet her when I went to bring Stevie home. She was so glad he was getting out! The barking dogs had frightened him terribly. Being blind, he didn't know if they were coming for him! Poor Stevie! Our vet says Stevie's eyes didn't develop properly and are undersized with malformed lids. He may see some light and shadows but that's all. Stevie doesn't let blindness slow him down. He loves to play, prance around, and run. Life with Stevie isn't going to be boring!

Blind Cats are Cool!

Plus Opinion on Changes...

Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary was started to answer the need for a safe place for blind cats that were deemed unadoptable by regular shelters and were going to be killed just because they are blind. We are a registered non profit with the state of North Carolina. There are no paid employees, only volunteers, so all contributions go directly to the kitties. Rescue is about restoring hope and dignity to creatures for whom no one else cares about. We are but humble vessels to help these magnificent creatures find their forever homes. The responsibility is big but the returns on our emotional investment are greater. You cannot place a value on the look of contentment that comes when an animal is clean, exercised, warm, fed and safe for the first time in its life. I has a favor to ask my Catster furriends!
I am entered in the Bissell MVP (Most Valuable Pet) contest. If I get enough votes this week, I can go to the finals where the grand prize is $10,000. for my favorite pet charity. Mine is, of course, Blind Cat Rescue of NC, cause I'm about 90% blind myself and I got rescued thanks to this wonderful organization.

Won't you stop by today through Jan 18 and vote for me? I'll purr my thanks so loudly that you'll hear me no matter where you lives!!

Here's the votin' place: ?id=1196

Zillions of Thankful Purrs,

Blind Cats CAN See a Future!

My Meowmy asked me to write a diary entry today for a very special cause!

I have one brofur who is blind and one sisfur who is visually impaired. My angel sisfur, Scarlett, was blind while she was on Earth.

My eyes didn't form correctly and I'm almost 100 percent blind. I have one tiny spot where I can see.

Did you know that even 'no-kill' shelters sometimes euthanize blind cats because they are considered 'unadoptable'? I would have been one of these cats. I was at a kill shelter and had no hope of adoption.
Did you realize that a blind, black blind cat - like our Bones and Charcoal - stands virtually no hope of adoption?
That cats can become blind due to birth defects, trauma, untreated disease, and yes, even human cruelty?

Did you also know that blind cats love to climb??
That they love to play with cat toys??
That they run and jump and enjoy life JUST LIKE OTHER CATS?

Did you know that there's a very special place for blind cats? A place where they are treated with love, respect, and care? It's TRUE!

This heaven-on-earth for blind cats is Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary of North Carolina, featured in the June, 2010 issue of Cat Fancy.
BCR is the dream and life's work of a very special woman, and the Sanctuary depends on the sponsorships of the cats and donations from caring people around the world.

But YOU can help BCR today and everyday in the Shelter Challenge at The Animal Rescue Site! It's FREE and EASY and it can truly make a difference. siteId=3

Bones, Scarlett, Charcoal, and I are some of the lucky ones. We found a loving, caring home, thanks to messages sent to my Meowmy from BCR! Other kitties need the resources only a Rescue can provide.

Won't you help by voting today and every day during the contest for Blind Cat Rescue of NC? (Don't forget to confirm your vote by identifying the animal photo shown after you vote!)

All the blind kitties will purr in gratitude!! e/home.faces?siteId=3

A Step Forward for Eve!!

So many of you have supported Meowmy, Mama Terry and their friends' quest to find Justice for Eve, the sweet kitten who died shortly after being adopted from Okefenokee Humane Society in Waycross, GA. You can read all about Eve on her Catster page:

I asked Meowmy to update you on a positive development!! A man from the GA Department of Agriculture answered Meowmy's (third) email to that office! He asked for Eve's medical records, saying they were necessary for an inquiry to proceed. Of course, Meowmy sent them right away. So it looks like someone has noticed us!! PURRRRRR!!!

This may take time. (Has the government ever moved quickly??) We promise to keep you updated when we have news.

For all who care about Eve, please take a moment and sign her petition, if you haven't already. It's never to late to take a stand for all the animals still at Okefenokee HS. Thank you for caring so much!!!!
