A Stray Cat's Second Chance

My Story

I was abandoned by my old family and left for dead in the streets before someone took me in and saved my life. Although she couldn't keep me, she protected me until a forever home was found. Because of her, I've got a second chance at a good life. Because she worked with a rescue group, I also have a micro chip now, so if anything ever happens to me again, I can be brought back to people who will love and protect me.

This poem was on one of the rescue groups web pages when the nice lady was trying to find me a new home of my own. She'd read it, look into my eyes, and start crying that she couldn't keep me herself. I know she tried everything, but I was just too afraid of her bigger cats, and in the end, it really was best for me to have my own home. I'll never forget her and I hope she'll never forget me...

A Stray Cat's Prayer
(Author Unknown)

Dear God, please send me somebody who'll care.
I'm so tired of running and sick with despair.
My body is aching and filled with such pain;
And dear God I pray, as I run in the rain
That someone will love me and give me a home,
A warm cozy bed, and food of my own.
My last owner left me alone in the yard...
I watched as they moved, and God that was hard.
So I waited a while, then went on my way
To rummage in garbage and live as a stray.
But now, God, I'm so tired and hungry and cold;
And I'm so afraid that I'll never grow old.
They've chased me with sticks and hit me with straps
While I run the streets just looking for scraps.
I'm not really bad, God, please help if you can,
For I have become just a "Victim of Man."
I'm wormy, dear God, and I'm ridden with fleas;
And all that I want is an Owner to please.
If you find one for me, God, I'll try to be good.
I won't scratch the carpet; I'll do as I should.
I'll love them, play with them, and try to obey.
I will be so grateful if they'll let me stay.
I don't think I'll make it too long on my own,
'Cause I'm getting weak and I'm so all alone.
Each night as I sleep in the bushes I cry,
'Cause I'm so afraid, God, that I'm gonna die.
I've got so much love and devotion to give
That I should be given a new chance to Live.
So dear God, please hear me, please answer my prayer,
And send me somebody who will REALLY care.

Dear Lilli & Family:
Mom cried so hard when she read the beautiful poem you had in your diary. I would like to get your permission to be able to pass on this sincerely touching work of words.

Love,
Casey & Furmom Judy

This is amazing. I have the same exact poem on my page. I was abandoned and left on the streets too. The shelter said somebody had to have just left me or turned me loose because I was too friendly. When I was "captured", I was anemic, eaten up with fleas, very malnourished, and had a bad upper respiratory infection. They wasn't sure I would make it through, but I did because I was waiting for my Mama! I knew there had to be somebody for me. When my Mama came to the shelter, I made sure she noticed me. I reached out to her and just meowed and purred, and kept pawing for her to get me! It worked and I won her heart! I hope all kitties find their furever home!

It is such a beautiful poem isn't it? So sad and so true if you have ever been on the streets. I'm so happy that someone rescued you from the streets as well and that you found your forever home! Hopefully, we will never feel like this poem again!
