Oh my catness kitties am I one cranky Moe Moe lady today! So, there I was, minding my own business and suddenly mommy freaks out at me and grabs ahold of me, pinning me down. She pulls something off my eyebrow. EWWWWWWW What's that? Gross! A TICK? HOW did that happen? It was all swollen from my bloods. HOW DARE THAT TICK BITE ME? That was bad enough, but you know what she does next? She cleans the boo boo on my head with icky stingy stuff that smells REALLY gross, then she rushes to the vets because we're out of flea and tick drugs. I should have gotten it last week but we were out and I have a vet appointment in 10 days so mommy was lazy... bad move mommy! She comes home right away with a big box of drugs, River gets his round, but not me... oh no, that would be too simple. GUESS what happened to me kitties?

SHE DUMPED ME IN THE BATHTUB!!! That's right! Mommy DARED to give ME a bath! She said she wanted to make sure she got all the ticks off! Well, I tell you, I growled and hissed, I scratched and bit, mommy has some claw marks on her now, she deserves it! I cried holly terror on her, oh yes I did. Then when I got out of the bath and got all nice and dry and fluffy again, drugs on my back. YUCK!

Mommy's pretty confident I'll be ok, she's keeping a close eye on me but she's pretty confident. I however and super angry about all of this. That stupid tick... I hope mommy squished him like a bug for doing this to me!

Even worse, all my pet beds are being washed now, River and I are without comfy places to sleep. This has been the WORST day of my life!

Oh kitty friends, I have NO idea how that icky tick got on me! It's so horrible! We don't go outside, River hasn't been out in weeks and we live on the second floor so there isn't even any grass right outside our door or anything!

Want to know what's worse? The vet just called, the girl who helped mommy was new and accidentally sold her the flea drug only, not the tick drug. UGH. Mommy has to go BACK tomorrow and get the tick drug and I can't have that till Sunday so the drugs don't interfere. The vet was very apologetic and they think it's unlikely anything bad could have happened. She said ticks generally have to be attached 6-24 hours for any bad parasites to get in, and there's NO WAY it was on me that long. MAYBE an hour at the most. Mom is still pretty frustrated though, she was trying to do the right thing and rushed right out for the drugs, now she has to spend the weekend worrying. She just loves me so. I'm still pretty mad, at least I'm dry now, mommy says my belly looks super fluffy and cute, I'm not amused, my belly was FINE as is. STUPID tick!

Oh man, I'm overdue for my flea and tick drop too. My vet told my mom that too, about ticks needing to feed for a while before they transfer things. I'm sorry you had to have a bath, but I bet you smell all nice and you look really cute. Your mommy will be feeling guilty too, so you can try to squeeze some treats out of this.

Ticks are crafty little (buggers) things that can attach them selves to a passerby, that say is walking past some tall grass, or perhaps near shrubs or low trees. Meowmy had one on her head it at a rest stop on a busy interstate...
Sometimes we see one walking over our carpet...looking for a 'victim'...but of course we don't allow that!

Yes, we too have heard about the length of time it takes for disease to be transmitted. A lot of ticks do not even carry disease, even though they can.
Sorry that you had to endure all that angst and humiliation of baths and spot-ons and no beds either...UGH!

Purrs for a better day tomorrow!

I know it's been a traumatic day, Simone, and there's very little that could be worse than a *bath*, but you're very lucky your mom found the tick this early. My mom had a tick bite her on her head behind the hairline at age 9, and it had been there for days before her mom found it. It was packed with diseases, and mom got them and they've disabled her ever since. She didn't get diagnosed or treated until 27 years later. That's why mom thinks we're such angels, 'cause we take such good care of her.
Be thankful that you've come out healthy, and if you did catch any diseases, take comfort in the fact that veterinarians in the USA give better care for Lyme than human doctors.

I hate to say it,but if you or River didn't bring it in,I only see one other source: THE HUMANS! I don't see a tick climbing 2 stories just to get a cat. I suppose they could, but it seems more likely it stowed away on a pants leg or something.

My male owner brings them in on himself. He likes to go geocaching out in the woods and the ticks just jump on him. We have been lucky because our owner takes a shower when he comes from his geocaching. He finds them and kills them. We did get fleas this year...ugh.....I can understand why you hate bathes and having your stuff washed. We endured the flea treatment and our mistress washed us and everything so many times. We are finally free of them. We are both indoor cats too....This has been our first year even seeing a flea....nasty well as those awful ticks....Hope that everything is back to normal soon....Alex and Natasha...

My mom got a tick on her leg once. She came back from jogging on the road by her house where there's lots of tall, unmowed grass along the side. When she look down, she saw a little black dot under her knee. Thinking it was dirt, she brushed it, but it didn't move! She had to pull it off, and then after the fact she realized it was a tick. She was absolutely disgusted and never went jogging again. She says it just doesn't pay to exercise.
