Today was a grand day, like every other day. I woke up mom with very little resistance. We played catch before she went to work, and we basically had our little relationship time this morning before dad woke up. Now it's changed 100% as of this evening. I knew something was up the moment they walked in the door. Talking in quiet voices and locking me out of the guest bedroom. I have a sister named Muriel. Apparently she has limited vision, so I will have to pussy foot around for the next few months. Not only that, she was a single mom too, and she was sprung from the Pen (Toronto humane society). Word on the street is that she has been around the block. Oh yeah pipsqueak, "I've had my share of street battles too". Thus my one eye battle scar. Let's take it one day at a time.

"You say goodbye and I say Hello"

Ms. Shady flew the coop, leaving me high and dry. It took me a few days to get over the lovely lady, but she is now just a tiny speck in my mind. A new gentleman kitty moved in with his super nice mom last weekend. This gentleman kitty is called Spazzy. Not a very elegant name I must say, but he must live up to it. By the looks of it, he needs to live up to his name. Dad saw him the other day and couldn't get over how large he was. Dad told mom that Spazzy reminded him of a large waddling raccoon. Poor guy. He just needs to go on a diet. Luckily, I have the basement stairs to run up and down a few times a day to keep my gut in check. I will have to make a mental note to not stare at his enormity when I first meet him. Mom and dad are already talking about a play date! Spazzy and I have already spoke to each other through the doors. Whispering late at night, telling each other our mom and dad's secrets. One secret of my mom's would be is she snores at night, not a loud snore.. but she likes to cut some logs at night. Spazzy's mom likes to eat peanut butter out of the jar, with a dirty spoon so he says. Yikes, I guess not everyone is perfect. I can't wait to lay my eyes upon my new friend. Goodbye Ms. Shady and Hello Mr. Spazzy. Let's play.
Yours truly,
Pepper

Today I bit the hand that feeds me. Dad had to intervene between a paw struggle on the bed between mom and I. I won. Mom loves me anyways, so what if she gets a few love bites on her wrist from our playtime?

Mom woke up early today and decided to see if I like her Alaskan King steamed salmon. Now do I? That stuff rocks. Steamed with fresh ginger, lemon, and garlic and soy sauce. She gave me a small spoonful, hesitant with her offering, unsure if I would give her the back. Giving her the back, is when I turn my back on her. I try not to do this too often, it hurts her feelings. And nobody likes hurt feelings, right?

But I did not give her the back, I gingerly took the piece of delectable offering and ate it. Now that I have acquired the taste of Alaskan King Salmon, I will demand it once a week, like the king I am.
Hail Pepper.

flies and such

Yum Yum. The more flies in my belly, the better! But I better not throw up on mom and dad's area rug carpet again. Oops! Why would they buy a off white area rug carpet with a black cat in the house! I spend most of my days and nights chasing these irritating insects, much to my parents amusement.

It's been a bit eventful at the house thus far. My parents being the softies that they are, let two boxers named Edie and Tyson, one 16 year old cat named Sweetie, 3 turtles (not sure of their names), one 19 month boy named Jaden, and their caregivers into my private oasis. The couple and their entire brood took up space, 3 weeks to be exact in my mom and dad's house. Luckily my mom and dad own a three bedroom, so it was not too bad. Tyson the boxer puppy was so upset with the move (from Los Angeles) that he promptly pooped in my mom and dad's basement. "No problem" my mom and dad said. It's just part of the moving stress. The guardians of this zoo brood eventually found a place to rent (it's tough when you have two big boxer puppies named Edie and Tyson) & moved to their own place. It was fun while it lasted.

Swifty and Ms. Shady

Well it looks like Swifty and Ms. Shady are safe and sound for now. Their dad will not be moving across the country side for a job. Swifty and Ms. Shady's dad went on vacation for a week and mom and dad took turns twice a day visiting, feeding and cleaning out their litterbox..ewww. Swifty is just one of those cats that can't get enough of people love. He wears his heart on his sleeve. Mom and dad had a hard time leaving him alone in the underworld with Ms. Shady when they went to work. Oh don't worry mom and dad, Swifty also loves my Ms. Shady to death. Swifty follows Ms. Shady everywhere, and never gives her a moments rest of peace and quiet. I must say though, I am a little bit jealous, he is slim, younger than I, and he likes to cuddle on the couch. I don't mind cuddling on mom when she has her Saturday afternoon nap, but I can't cuddle on dad. I know this hurts his feelings, but mom is just softer and smells better too! Anyways, Swifty is trying to take over the underworld and even my world. I've overheard dad saying that we would take Swifty if his dad decided not to take him with him. What do you mean, not take his son Swifty with him? Mom is deplored to think that a person can adopt a cat, and just leave him after loving him for so many months. What is wrong with young people these days, mom says. I agree. But does this mean Swifty may become my brother, whatever happens, happens for a reason. I just don't want to share my litterbox with such a suck.

becoming less swift

Last night mom and dad received a late night call from Swifty's dad. Apparently, he needed to borrow the van to transport Swifty to the vet. Poor Swifty. He went to the vet early this morning to get fixed before he starts spraying in the underworld(basement). I'm sure he will not be jumping against the door between my place and his anytime soon. There will be no jumping of any kind. I also heard through the pipelines that he may be moving to British Columbia. Mom and dad are sad cause they like Swifty's dad. They say he pays his rent on time, he is clean, and never parties, plus he likes having the company of cats. They like him so much they even lent him the van for the day (Swifty's dad got in a car accident a month ago and his car is still being fixed.) I will miss that Mr. Swifty and his tough guy tricks. I will miss my Ms. Shady the most though. She is gentle, quiet, and always has lots of love to give. We kept each other company while growing up, whispering to each other through the door in the underworld. I hope the next person who moves into the underworld loves cats as much as Swifty and Ms. Shady's dad. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Yours truly,
Pepper xxoo

Mr. Swifty

Last night, Mr. Swifty my new neighbour cat decided to show who is boss of the underworld (basement). He must of hurdled his 5lb self against his door like a torpedo. The sound boomed through the entire underworld. Needless to say, his dad was not impressed. His dad has a loud voice when he is annoyed. He used to get mad at Ms. Shady when she was a kitty, but now that she is grown up and behaves herself like a little lady he rarely raises his voice at all. But not last night. Mr. Swifty does not know who he is messing with. I have a hook tail, and one good eye, plus I have a good southpaw mom says. I am also fattening myself up for the winter and to become king of the underworld. Mom and dad can't understand why I am gaining weight. They carefully measure out my food everyday and make sure I run up and down the stairs frequently throughout the day. But little do they realize that my weight gain is actually muscle. I eat every single bug, fly, & ladybug that dares enter our house for protein and drink lots and lots of water to keep myself hydrated. This is not over between Mr. Swifty and I. What kind of name is Swifty anyways?

Yours truly,
Pepper xxoo

New friend

I have a new cat friend, named Swifty. He is Ms.Shady's roomate. A rather funny cat, he thinks of himself as being a tough sort of character. Ms. Shady says not to worry, he just acts that way when I'm around. Swifty has heard about my prior life on the street, and how I lost my eye in a streetfight, so he is rather worried about my past. I'm no longer the tough street cat that I once was. My mom has made sure of this. She insists on picking me up daily and holding me close. I think I'm losing my edge.

Taking a break

After a long hot summer, I've decided to exercise my right as a cat to write! The weather has turned cold and damp. I hope those outdoor cats stay warm and dry. My friend, the fluffy white cat who likes to linger around on our front lawn is in recovery mode with a injured paw. Apparently, she had tried to have a tussle with one of the bigger tomcats who sometimes roam through our neighbourhood. Mom said it is a shame that the fluffy white cat's mom lets such a pretty cat outside to get into trouble. We also have a new neighbour, a dog named Lola. As long as Lola doesn't get too close to mom and dad, she will be safe. I'm watching her with my one eye.
