Arrival Story:
It was late in the evening September 10,2001. We turned left towards our house and passed a thing sitting in the middle of the street. I asked my wife if it was a stuffed animal, then realized it was a kitten and yelled for her to stop the car. I sprinted back and picked up this scrawny sickly kitten. Her fur was a mess, her bones were practically poking through her skin, she was covered in fleas, one of her eyes was glued shut with crusty goo and she was coughing and sneezing. We took her home and put her in a box. Then my wife, our poodle and I all got down on our hands and knees and looked at her like she was an alien baby. See, none of us were cat people and we had no idea what we were supposed to do with this poor creature. The next morning, we brought her to the vet, only to find that our beloved Twin Towers were gone and there was a gaping hole in the Pentagon. We discovered, fortunately, that 'our' cat was simply in need of anti-biotics and we were to administer them x number of times until she was well. I convinced my wife that we needed to keep this critter to help us through the week long CNN fear inducing coverage of the terrorist attacks that we found ourselves succumbing to.
