   Leave a treat for Currier

"Little Miss Fluffy Pants," but she usually just goes by "Currier." (I've been naming my kittens after buildings at Harvard.)

Kitty Complexion:

Being held. Being petted too long. Otherwise, she's a pretty contented cat.

Wand toys.

Favorite Nap Spot:
Near wherever Mommy is.

Favorite Food:

Plopping down on the floor on exactly the same spot that Mommy is about to step on.

Arrival Story:
I've gotten 4 cats from the same breeder, and somewhere along the way got interested in the cat show world. Many people who show cats go from there to breeding. Since I spent so much time at my breeder's, and he made it look easy, I decided to try. Well, it's not easy (and doesn't bring in much, if any, money). Currier was one of Leila's first litter (The Magnificent Seven), but because the Japanese are not very fond of tortoiseshells (they prefer tortie and whites), no one has spoken for her. Her ad is still on the Internet site I use, but she's 10 months old now, and the chances of her finding a new owner are dim. I'm really at my limit regarding how many cats I can handle, but Currier herself seems to have decided that this is where she's going to stay, and as she was always my favorite of all the kittens, well, she's still here.

Currier's coloration is subtle, but quite lovely, especially the red collar around her ruff, her half-red, half-black nose, the freckles around her nose, and her black feet. She has a well-sized muzzle, a looong torso (thanks to Momcat Leila), and the fluffiest tail of all my MCs. She's a living example of why MCs are sometimes referred to as "the cat with the tail." She also has beautiful eyes, although they are sometimes hard to see since she's such a dark tortie. Her short points are that her ears are a bit small (like Leila's) and that her fur doesn't have the silky quality that her relatives all have, and it tends to clump, even after a show bath. This is not an important issue for Currier herself, as it's easy to make a tortie a Champion (no competition!), but I'm planning to make her one of my queens, and I'm wondering whether her kittens will have the same kind of fur. Personality-wise, she has Leila's standoffish personality to a certain degree, but is extremely loyal, and always in whatever room I'm in. Yet she doesn't particularly like to be held (though she loves those tummy rubs), and can take only a certain amount of petting before she takes off. She's the most curious cat I've had--always trying to "help" me with whatever I'm doing. Any change whatsoever in her environment engages her interest. She gets along with the other cats, and seems to have a special bond with Spike; they sleep next to each other, and she lets him groom her; they also wrestle. Harvey hisses at her (he hisses at almost all the cats except Spike), but she just ignores him. She and Spike are my official door-greeters when I come back from work or shopping. I can't keep a kitten from every litter, but this was my first litter, she and I seemed to click (even though she was the least overtly friendly kitten of the bunch), and she herself seemed determined to stay here. And so she has. Update: Indeed, Currier became a Champion with the CFA (January 2010) in her first show as an adult. Since she had no competion in her color class, becoming a Champion was guaranteed. Oddly, her beautiful tail has lost fur, and she is quite skinny--like Harvey, she seems to be a cross between a ferret and a cat.
