Arrival Story:
After I had to put one of my dogs to sleep after he had a seizure related to spread of his lung cancer, my remaining dog was extremely depressed and needed a companion. I found this dog at the pound who was so scared I had to pull her from her cage since she wouldn't come out on her own. It took months until she felt safe enough to approach me though it still sometimes startles her if I bend down to pet her when she isn't expecting it. Her instincts kick in and she runs under the bed where she sleeps. But she and my other dog immediately took a liking to each other and that has helped Denali feel comfortable. Last week during a storm in the middle of the night, she even got into my bed so I could help her feel safe. That was a first!

My Day

Tag!

Tag - you're it! Here are the rules:

TAG RULES
Each player starts with seven random facts about themselves. Dogs who are tagged need to post in thier diary the rules and their seven pawsome facts. Then choose seven dogs to tag and list their names. Don't forget to bark them a p-mail. Tell them that they have been tagged and to read your diary.

Here are my seven facts about me:
1. I am shy around people I don't know
2. I was adopted from the pound after being surrendered
3. I developed idiopathic chylothorax last October and almost died
4. I love my human mom and my adopted doggy mom, Diki
5. I am the only one in my pack who knows how to shake paws or give a "high five"!
6. I love my back yard - especially standing on the wall next to the patio
7. I get to eat dinner in my crate so I don't have to worry about my other pack mates trying to get it.

What a beautiful day!

When my human mom got home after riding her bike home from work, she was worn out from riding uphill and against a 22-35 mph wind for 10 miles. But since it seemed like such a nice day to me and the temp was 82, she took me and my adopted dog mom, Diki, for a walk with her handicap scooter. I love pulling the scooter and am jealous that Diki gets to have all that fun doing it as a service dog. I wish I could have that job and travel on airplanes and other such things, but my human mom says I still get too scared of things and am too apprehensive of people. Diki seems to love every person she sees so I feel like I have to protect her from the mean people I know are out there. But my human mom says that service dogs have to be friendly towards people.

We went for a nice walk, and I would have liked to go further, but Diki was ready to go home, get some water, and relax. Oh well....I hope we get another nice weather day soon!

Back to normal

I'm feeling great! After all I've been through, it's great to be back to normal again! That was quite an ordeal. My mom says I am extra special since I beat the odds and fully recovered from my idiopathic chylothorax after having experimental surgery that can also help people someday.

My ribs on my right side are a little irregular after having my abdomen and chest opened up for the sugery, but that doesn't bother me. The hair is also growing back from the large area that was shaved off.

My mom has been putting Mighty Dog meat chunks on top of my regular Candidae dog food to help me gain weight. Getting my weight back has helped me feel better also. So even though I may not "have" to have the extra soft food mixed in with my dry food, I'm not going to let mom know since it taste so good!

I'm also glad that the weather has been so great! We had some ice and snow about two weeks ago. I enjoyed the snow and would throw snow balls up in the air and catch them! Now the temps are in the upper 60s with sunny skies all week which has been great for playing with my dog mom.

Best Tricks:
Walking & running!

Arrival Story:
Redgie was brought in to be PTS because he had a back injury and the owner didn't want to pay for medication to fix him up. The vet refused to euthanize him and talked the owner into surrendering him, instead. We took him in as a foster dog for Dachshund Rescue of Southern California. He was in horrible shape: badly dehydrated, obese, horrible coat, could barely walk without screaming. After crate rest and medication for his underactive thyroid, plus lots of time and love and care, he is now walking and running! We decided to keep Redgie because he is a wonderful dog who loves us almost as much as we love him. Seeing the joy on Redgie's face every day is a great blessing to me. He is a wonderful lap dog and companion, and he loves his Mommy and Daddy very, very much.

Bio:
In summer 2006, the vet removed a tangerine-sized tumor from Redgie's stomach. As soon as he was fully recovered, he injured a disc high up in his spine, leaving his front legs limp and unable to support him. It took him three months to heal from that injury, but Redgie's spirit is strong even if his body keeps breaking. He may be an old pig, but he's a good pig.

Mom took me to the vet today!

Well, today I was scooped up and taken to see a new vet clinic today! It's been almost 4 yrs since my last visit. Mom has been a bit nervous about taking me back since the last time I had vaccines I had a bit of a reaction. This is an all cat clinic which mom liked! It's very nice and they even have their own office cat named Christina! I did pretty good but did cry on the trip there and was scared in the office. My temp was high and so was my heart rate! Geez! Who wouldn't be a bit nervous considering I didn't know what mom or these people were up to?! They weighed me and I'm 14.5 lbs! The vet said I could lose a few pounds so mom is going to start monitoring my feedings. Uh oh! She also thought I could use a dental in the near future since I do have plaque build up. Since I had a reaction to my last vaccines she suggested giving me one vaccine with an antihistamine prior which helps with reactions. I growled and hissed when they gave me the shots! I wasn't too happy! Mom says she never hears me hiss except when I get shots! Well, who wouldn't hiss with all that! Anyways, everything else was good and I should go back in a few weeks for the next vaccine. Maybe if I hide she won't find me!

Glad Catster is back up and running and we can visit with our pals once again!

Hugs and purrs,
Simon(with a sore butt)

Hello my dear furiends!

I can't believe this will be my last diary here at Catster. The news came as such a shock to so many of us and we all here are still in a bit of denial. When we first joined Catster we really didn't know how it worked or what things were but when we started to receive furiend requests and little gifts it was so exciting and we felt like part of the community! So many wonderful furiends we have made and wonderful memories over the years! We never thought it would end! It felt like a big family where we could come to play and support each other when there were birthdays, Gotcha Day anniversaries, DDPs, COTD, DOTD and Bridge anniversaries. We helped each other through all the good times and when things weren't so good we were all there to lend some Power of the Paw! We never heard of POTP until Catster but it sure does help those we love!

I want to thank you all for the love and support you have given me during my time here on Catster. The memories will last furever and I will keep you close to my heart no matter where you may go! Mom does want to look for another group where we can meet up with our pals so please let us know where you are going. Take care of yourselves pawsome furiends and keep love close to your heart!

Even though Catster may be coming to an end please know this is not goodbye but until we meet again!

Hugs and purrs,
Simon
