Howdy Dear Friends,
Guess I will write my Diary although it is not a happy one... so many of you have pawmailed, sent POP, and visited I thought I should make this entry for everyone to read.
MamaCat got a call from the vet while driving to to work this morning and the blood work shows it is not my thyroid...
it is FIV : (
Although I have a huge appetite, in just the past couple of months, I have lost half my body weight. My fur is still shiny and I purr a lot when MC holds me in her lap.
She is too sad about it and can't reply to each pawmail and Gift and Group at this time because she will start crying.
I am feeling ok. In fact, this morning after she fed me my special K&D can food, I ran along in front of her and did my usual fall down curled up on my side so she would stop and give me tummy rubs.
Gets her every time! : )
I guess it is a matter of time now... when I get further along and can't enjoy my days... she will let me go to the Bridge... oh gosh here she goes crying...
Been too soon since we lost our little Raincloud and fluffy Cartman. MamaCats can only take so much sadness at a time, so I am gonna stick around as long as I can. Besides she seems to have a never ending supply of tummy rubs... just for me!
better close now I need to dry MamaCat's tears...
Thank you for your Love...
Love you all too,
Oh no Big Bob and family! We are very saddened to read this. I am purring my strongest tuxie purrs for you and your family! Hugs also for your sweet mama...
Lots of purrs and love,
Wait, FIV or FIP? I'm confused. FIV is not a death sentence. I hope you are not talking about FIP. All this FIP here on Catster is so sad and so scary. POTP no matter what it is. We love you and your furmily!
So sorry to hear this news but we know you are a fighter and still have so much love yet to give. We are purring very hard that you and your momcat have a lot of time yet ahead! We love you!
Hugs and purrs,
Simon & Reuben(an angel)
Oh NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO this really wasn't what i wanted to hear, mommy says shes always here for your mommy and when the time comes aithough hopefully not for a while yet i will be at the bridge with the biggest welcoming party of all time, until then get lots of rest and have the bestest time with your mommy,we love you all xxx
MamaCat called the vet just now and asked if she misunderstood. Was it FIV or FIP? He said FIV.
He said since I was eating and happy and doing good I could live a lot longer. Time will tell.
Love you Gumpy and Alex and Simon : )
Big Bob, I am very sorry to hear this and the human is very sad for your meowmy. I hope your vet can help you better now that they know what the problem is. We had a outdoor cat that lived to be well into his teens with HIV. Maybe some B12 shots could help you absorb more nutrients out of the food you are eating. they are very safe and not expensive, have helped me a great deal. We are all sending purrs your way.
Okay BOB! Buddy, listen to me okay? FIV is NOT a death sentence. River has it and his mommy wrote an article on my website about it. PLEASE READ THAT ARTICLE and I'll tell River you need some encouragement. I also recommend B12 injections and even some vitamins. Please tell your meowmy that there is hope! You could live a lot longer than you think sweetie!

Purrs and Love,
Hi there Big Bob, listen to me and listen to me real goods ok? I PROMISE YOU FIV is NOT a death sentence! Ok? I just wants to assures you of that first. I've gots FIV, so do a couple of other kitties here on Catster you might know, Orange Ruffy, Gleek, a whole bunch of us. FIV is actually pretty common in kitties. First off, we can live a very long life with it. I'm all ready about 7,8,9, something like that. I've had it for at least the past 4 years since the rescue group found me. You would NEVER know I'm 'sick'. Check out my pictures and video! Do I look sick? Nopes! Cause for all practical purposes, I'm not!
So here are the MOST important things to know about FIV...
1) You can live a long, normal, healthy life with FIV. It may never even show itself. You might live to be 22 and finally pass on one day from a completely unrelated disease. It doesn't always metabolize itself.
2) You can be around other kitties, the only way FIV passes is through fluid transfers, deep bites or sexual contact, if you are fixed and well behaved, not a problem. My sisfur is still FIV negative and we've lived together for 4 years. It is not an airborne disease and the disease dies once it has been exposed to the air.
3) ONLY cats can get FIV, so nobody else is in any danger. Not humans, dogs, birds, fish, rabbits, nothing!
The MOST IMPORTANT fact is that FIV isn't a killer. Some vets over react about it, but it's not as dangerous as they think about 95% of the time. Definitely read the article my mommy wrote for Alex's webpage and send me a pawmail buddy, I can helps you out, I promise. FIV is not the end of the world. I can hooks you up with a whole bunch of us FIV babies who are living long healthy lives. We're here for you. Seriously buddy! I'm 8 years old and have been living with FIV for AT LEAST 4 of those years, possibly more. Hang in there buddy, you could have many many many more years left in you, don't let your mommy get worried and cry. We poofy tuxie guys with the FIV are troopers! If you want, I can hook you up with some other FIV positive kitties too! Write to me and my mommy, we are here for you! We gots lots of advice and know what you are dealing with! Believe me, it nearly broke mommy's heart when she first got me, they NEARLY didn't adopt me because of the FIV, they were so worried, so she knows what it feels like, that's just not the case though buddy! Look at me! My vet can't even remember I'm 'sick'!
oh yeah, just one more thing, we don't want to insult your vet because we don't know them or what they said, but lots of vets are really poorly informed about FIV. We changed vets twice before meeting our nice lady vet now. One of them even told mommy to put me down. GASP! How dares they?!? Mommy freaked out! I'm clearly healthy! I know some other FIVers who have had similar experiences. If your vet is telling you your days are numbered, they might not be up to speed on the disease. Yeah, your days might be numbered but that number is probably in the 100s or thousands still! Read up on the disease yourself and do the research, maybe talk to some other vets! It isn't the end of the world Bob! PROMISE!
See Big guy? What'd I tell ya?! River is living proof that you can live a long, happy and healthy life. So glad I saw this diary, I hope we've managed to help your mommy stop crying and to know that she is not alone.
Oh no, we're purring up a storm for you to live a long life my dear friend. We are sending purrs to you and your momcat.
Love Rex and family
Norman, Alex, Smiley, River, Rex...
Alex, MamaCat read the article you sent about River and found it very informative.
Guess there is some confusion but I am not going anywhere.
This morning on the phone, MC asked our vet if she should let me go and he said "no". He said as long as I am eating and happy and my quality of life is good... to enjoy me. He said should the FIV get to a bad stage, MC would know, because I would be very sick. But that could be a long time from now. At that time MC could decide what to do.
MC was sad about it this morning because it was so new. And we were thinking it was a thyroid problem... not this FIV.
She is going by the vet on the way home and ask about Vitamins, B-12 shots, grain free food, immune system booster and such.
Catster support is so amazingly wonderful!
We love you all!
Big Bob and MC
Sending you lots of love and purrs and hope you're soon feeling better.
Angel Alfie and Family
Just know that not all vets are for the "grain free" diet. A lot of them don't believe in that. That would be something you could do on your own. Cats are carnivores and don't need grains in their diet. Those are bad carbohydrates and make the pancreas work too hard.
Phew! We sure are glad to hear that Big Bob! We know, mommies get depressed when they get bad news about us cause they loves us like nothing or nobody else ever will, we get that. We are happy to hear your mommy is feeling better now though and is more optimistic. Hang in there buddy, you'll see, in a few weeks, you won't even remember this moment. You'll only remember you have FIV when someone specifically asks about it! My parents and vet forget all the time cause I'm such a healthy guy! Headbonks to you and your mommy, if you needs anything, you shoots me a message ok? Think of it this way, you are now a member of a very exclusive club, a loved and living example of a cat with FIV! Spread the word! We FIV kitties get put down all the time because people aren't educated, show them all buddy! Show them all how much life we've got in us and how much love we have to give!
Hey Big Bob, it's okay my friend. I know your mommy is scared but you can live a long time with FIV. I got it at about four years of age and I lived until more than 18 years of age. :) The only side effect I had was dental disease. I needed to get regular dentals. Otherwise I was happy and healthy. When I did go to the Bridge it was from stomach cancer that the vet said was unrelated to my FIV status.
Thank you sweet Alfie : )
Alex our vet said not to worry with a special diet. I do love meat! So I am gonna get lots of that!
River you have helped me so much! I hope I can help other cats with FIV just as you have helped me : )
Howdy Buddy Angel so you knew how to live with FIV too. My MC was very scared at first, but now, looks like I am going to be getting lots of special attention :D
Love you all and many thanks for your time...
Hugs to you too!
Big Bob, I'm super glad to hear that I can help. Mommy often thinks that just seeing me can help people who hear their beloved kitties have FIV. It sounds so scary, but if you look at me over the past 4 years you can see that it barely touches me, she thinks that's probably pretty inspiring. If she had known how full of life I would be, she wouldn't have hesitated at all to adopt me! And you know what buddy? There's nothing wrong with a little special attention! We only live once, and it's all about how we live that life! I'm living it as the bestest spoilest beloved cat! You and me buddy, shinning examples of classy tuxie guys, living the good life, even with FIV! Just makes us a little extra special!
Purrs to your MamaCat dear Buddy Angel ♥
River, well said my friend... you are an inspiration so keep up your appearances when a kitty gets FIV... you sure did calm my MamaCat ♥
I am eating most all the time! MOL! My coat is shiny and I am back to purring. Thank you all for leaving your words of love and encouragement. Means so very much to us...
Big Huggs to Everyone ((HUGGS))
Oh Gosh... hehehe... I'm River blushing! Super duper head bonks of lovies for you Big Bob and MamaCat! I'm glad to hear you're doing so well!
What furbulous newsh Big Bob! Whoo hoo! Smiley doesh a happy dance!
Purrs and Hugs,
River, it's true what you said about some vets still being behind the times about their knowledge of FIV. When I was diagnosed, back in 1991, FIV was a big scary disease and most vets were recommending euthanasia. My vet was ahead of his time; he studied AIDS in humans and had come to the conclusion that it was possible to for felines to live a long time with the disease. And, I proved him right! :D
Big Bob, I am so glad to hear you are eating well and that your coat is shiny and healthy! Great news!!!
Hi Big Bob, we're so glad to hear you're doing well and eating a lot! Also so glad you & your mamacat have gotten some hopeful, encouraging info about FIV! Purring that you continue to be well and eat well. You're a strong tuxie guy (handsome too) and we'll keep purring for you.
