Likes: Knocking all the magnets off the fridge, grooming the dogs' feet, and especially his Mom. He's a mama's boy, big time!!
Pet-Peeves: Not getting petted enough
Favorite Toy: Loves chasing the laser light, flopping around with Q-tips, carrying things in his mouth
Favorite Nap Spot: In the cat condo, his special bed right in front of the computer monitor, or the living room couch snuggled between the pillows
Favorite Food: Kitty Kaviar. He'd choose that over any cat food or other treats
Skills: He's very photogenic and barely blinks even with the camera flashing at him from a few feet away.
Arrival Story: Riley was our second adoption from Safe Haven Animal Sanctuary, a non-profit rescue organization. I went to PetSmart where they were having an adoption fair and kept staring at Riley because he was sitting up calmly looking around and when I stuck my fingers through the cage he licked them, so I started asking Debra, his foster mom, about him. She had rescued Riley and one of his brothers after their mama put them inside of a tractor to hide them. The workers heard the cries but couldn't find them until one worker unbolted the metal floorboard and found them dehydrated and cold. Debra bottle fed and raised them with other cats, a dog, and kids. After a phone call to my husband, I decided he was the one for us!! Safe Haven normally delivers the cats to their new homes but since they had recently been here with Sofie they told me I could take him with me. I left the store with Riley in tow, and a BIG SMILE on my face! Riley didn't need any time to adjust to his new home. He was like "Oh, okay, this is cool!"
Bio: Riley has white fur like a cottonball at the tip of his tail, his bottom lip is outlined with black, and he's got an adorable pink nose! He's a real charmer with a suave personality and expressive eyes. Sometimes when I don't pet him enough he nips at me and gives me this dirty look which makes me laugh hysterically. Riley is funny as he will sit and block doorways when we (including the dogs) need to get by. He just looks up innocently at us, batting his eyes and won't budge. The dogs are very gentle with the kitties so they never force their way past them so with Riley they'll whine because he won't move. He's a kneader and a drooler too!
We still can't believe we won one of the Grand Prizes. Dad told Mom that if she wins a contest like this every month she won't have to work. MOL!
Speaking of Dad, while he and Mom were out having dinner last weekend, he told Mom that he remembered watching part of an episode of Jackson Galaxy's show where he saw a cat tower with platforms. He said he felt that Riley (yes, he said MY name), should get something like that. Well, Dad may not have known what that tower was called but Mom knew right away he was talking about the Hollywood Franklin Tower.
YES! Mom spent last weekend emailing with kitty Franklin's Dad, who is the designer, and decided what configuration she wanted for us. It's going to include two cabanas. Franklin's Dad even honored a discount offer that ended a few days earlier.
The pole and clamps for the tower come from IKEA so that's all we have so far, but our platforms have been shipped and should be here this coming week. I'm glad because staring at a pole is pretty boring!
We received the check from Purina on Saturday and the items Mom ordered for us arrived today in two big boxes.
Mom wanted to get something special and decided to get two Pet Ottoman Dens for the family room to replace the single glass table that was there. This was a good idea not only for us but because Dad used to put a pillow on the glass table for his feet all the time.
Since the ottomans come in brown, it didn't really go with the existing rug and curtains, so Mom had some fun changing those as well. A family room makeover!
The ottomans are great, very sturdy, and with two of them, all nine of us could fit on top and inside if we wanted to. Actually, Huey could fit on top of them but we're not encouraging it. Besides, Mom decided on something really great for him--a dog bone shaped pool, but don't tell him!
It all started in early May when Dad saw an announcement about a Purina photo contest and encouraged Mom to enter. There were six categories and we entered each of them. Six Grand Prize winners were to be awarded, along with six First Place prize winners.
Last Thursday, we got a special FEDEX delivery containing a letter and documents indicating we were one of six Grand Prize winners pending the return of a notarized Affidavit of Eligibility and Release form as well as a Copyright Assignment form!! They included a copy of the winning photo and a prepaid overnight return envelope.
Mom took care of this right away because it was due back to them today. Well, she got the call today saying all paperwork was in order and to pick a day to have the check delivered because she has to sign for it. I didn't want to tell you before all the forms were received and they made it official.
The check is for $5,000 made payable to Mom/us!
The picture that won is the 10th picture on my page with my brother Huey. It was entered in the Pair Entries category and the Best Sense of Humor sub-category! Winners were selected by a hired independent judge. Thank you Mr. or Mrs. Independent Judge!
Mom is already making plans on how to spend some of the money on us, but is still trying to figure out what to buy Huey. The rest will stay in the pet account!
Here is the link to the Purina contest page but the announcement of the winners won't show up until around July 12. I'll be sure to let you know when it's there!
