Arrival Story:
Athena is a rescued cat. I volunteered at the local animal shelter adoptathon every Saturday and I fell in love with her and they told me if I wanted her that bad, to go ahead and take her. She is the sweetest cat I have ever met!

She was born with malformations in her front legs. Her right leg is missing the ligaments which allows it to flex, so it appears clubbed. Her left leg has a condition called Radius Curvas and is also missing a ligament which connects her foot to her ankle, so it is permanently dislocated. But that doesn't stop her at all. She's a normal cat who loves to run and play and sleep in your lap. She is also asthmatic and will be on an inhaler for the rest of her life, but that still doesn't stop her!! ^_^ She's a really tough lady!!!!

So I went to vet today. I have Stomatitis. Makes purrfect sense why I wasn't feeling all that great....So they gave me a steroid and an anti-inflammatory. Hopefully this will work...... mom doesn't want to lose me....

Mom noticed that I've been having a hard time lately with my asthma.... more than usual. Today kinda topped the cake, not to mention I think I have a little cold which is no bueno for asthma.....

When we found out that I'm an asthmatic cat, mom couldn't believe that cats, just like humans, can get asthma. Unfortunetly, it's a pretty expensive chronic illness. The medicine alone cost well over $300 and that's not even for a 2 months supply.

Asthma can be pretty dangerous for an untreated cat, especially if it's acute asthma which happens all the time. Mom had to take a different route when it comes to maintaining my asthma. After quite a bit of research, she's been changing my food to a grain-free diet (which seems to be helping) and she found out that there are certain litters that are better to use for me (Worlds Best Cat Litter and Yesterdays News, just to name a few).

I've lived with this condition for 7 years now. It's getting harder now that I'm older. I'm not at active as I was when I was younger and I'm certainly more to myself as well. Still as gentle and friendly as ever, but...... starting to slow down.....

*I'm praying that tonight is not the night that Athena passes.....It breaks my heart that I can't afford the medicine that she needs and part of me wonders why I didn't try and find a home for her that could afford it......when I rescued her, they were getting ready to euthanize her for her disabilities and I couldn't let that happen. I feel in love with her the moment I layed eyes on her. I know one day, her asthma will probably be what takes her home. I'm so blessed that I was able to have her part of my family for this long.*

My favorite rest spot is definitely in my moms arms!!!! It's so warm and the sound of her heart beat is soothing, especially after my asthma attacks. =^_^= MEOWWWWWWWWWWWW
