Scooter, my fighter, you mean so much to me. It was so devastating when you became so ill with the infection and the diabetes and we thought that we were going to loose you. You have always been such a laid back, cool, calm kitty that the thought of not having you in our lives anymore was horribly sad. You fought this and you made it and it is wonderful! You are special now because you require insulin every day and a special diet, but we are doing everything that it takes to continue to keep you healthy. I didn't realize that you were not feeling well for such a long time, but now that you are healthier you have just been amazing. Our cuddle time has been so precious now and I treasure every moment that we have together. I have learned from you that we should not take for granted every day that we have to give to one another and each day is a gift. Thank you Scooter for the gift of your love and devotion that you continue to share and give to us every single day! You are my special, special kitty!

Wow! The past few weeks were unbelievable. A couple of weeks ago I was feeling just awful and I could hardly move. I was hiding in the basement and Mom couldn't find me. I was so sick I could not even lift my head up. She got me to the vet as soon as she could. I was so badly dehydrated that the vet did some blood work and kept me in the hospital to give me fluids. I usually don't like going to the Dr., but at this point because I felt so awful it didn't bother me at all. When they got my blood work back they called my Mom and she was devasted to learn that I had diabetes and I also had a really bad infection and that I was in a diabetic coma and the Dr.'s said that I was critical! For two days they were not sure if I was gonna make it or not. My blood sugar was 475!! That is really high. My Mom came every night after work to the hospital to visit me and she just kept telling me that I had to fight and that I had to make it through. She just kept telling me to stay strong and she new that I could beat it. Well, on the third day I started to come around and respond to the antibiotics and to the insulin and I was doing much better. I had to stay in the hospital for 5 days with all these tubes in me! When I came home I had to be isolated form my brothers and sisiters because I need a special diet and I also have to have insulin shots every morning. Once everyone finishes their breakfast our bowls are taken up and I am allowed to visit with everyone so I am not alone all the time.
I go now every week to the vet so that they can check my blood sugar and I have gone twice now. The first time my blood sugar was still a little high at 375, but this past week my blood sugar was 102 and the Dr. said that was perfect! They still have to monitor me closely as it is going to take a while to regulate, and they are hoping eventually my diabetes will be controled by diet alone. For now I have to get the shots, but I am used to them already and they don't bother me.
Mom has been so happy that I made it through and is doing everything possible to make sure that I get healthier every single day. Boy, it sure was scary to be in the hospital and be so sick, but I knew that I had more lives left in me and wasn't ready to leave my family yet.
Well, that's my horrible diabetic story, but I am doing pretty good now and I feel stronger every day.
Now, "Moooommmy let me down from upstairs so I can play with my brothers and sisters!!"
