It all started when the heat pump service man came to our house. I wouldn't stop growling at him and walking around him in circles. Mom has never seen me act this way before. I'm ALWAYS friendly. She picked me up, and I almost used my claws on her!, and locked me in the bedroom. I didn't like that. She put Squirrel in the other bedroom. Squirrel was fine. She wondered if the repair man had stepped on me? or kicked me? but she never heard me meow out loud.
I stayed kind of loopy for a few more days.
Mom figures it is because of the mice that just so happened to invade our house at the same time. Squirrel was behaving strangely, because she was hunting mice 24-7. Mom knew what Squirrel was up to but I didn't know what was going on with Squirrel, as I have never seen her in hunting mode before, so that upset me. I was trying to figure out what Squirrel was so focussed on and I didn't know. So that freaked me out.
I'm good now and haven't growled for a few days and am almost back to normal. I am still keeping an eye out for Squirrel and watching her body language. If she goes into hunting mode again, I might get uptight again. I prefer my toy mice to real ones. And I don't like middle of the night excitement unless I start it.
While on Mom's lap this morning, we spotted this cute little bird.
Maybe you just don't like change,& what with the moving stuff around looking for mice,& marmots in the car port & heat pump guys prowling around, you just didn't like your routine being disturbed. Or maybe the heat pump guy didn't like cats & you picked up on it?
I'm betting it's the uniform. For some reason, even cats can be scared of man wearing a hat or a uniform. We have those birdies in my yard all the time! Mom has a thistle sock outside to feed them, aren't they beautiful?
Could be. The outfit that the service man came from tried to convince Mom that she didn't have to be home for the service call. They were bonded and to be trusted. Mom said, "No way. No one is in my house with my cats without me here when it is just for maintenance and not an emergency." And he for sure didn't seem to like us cats. And he had BIG BOOTS! And wasn't careful where he stepped. Other service people have been here and admired our cuteness.
The marmot came after my strange behaviour.
Yes, Finney, Mom just figured out that it was an American Goldfinch! We all perk up when we see a yellow birdie around here.
The boots do it to us too Kitcat. We don't like those big boots and run for it!
Too bad you had to be spooked and stressed out like that! Hope you get many calmer days ahead.
That Goldfinch is so handsome in his summer uniform.
We have them here, too, and they sing so prettily.
I don't like strangers either my friend.
I don't like new people in my house. So, I can see why you were a bit upset.
I love that birdy. Sooo purrty
Hope everything stays more normal for you. I'm no fan of strangers in my house.
I'm usually fine with strangers. Mom thinks it was Squirrel's behaviour (while she was mousing) that had me on pins and needles. I'm okay now and acting normal. I was at the door yesterday when a neighbour came over with her kids and I wasn't spooked. We are pretty sure I was just puzzled and spooked by how Squirrel was acting while she went to work to keep our house free from mice. I admire her but I can't see myself doing that any time soon.
Thank you all for reading and commenting on my ordeal.
