Tomcat matata loves hunting "House Gecko" lizards.I save the- third lizard from Matata's jaws.(Wednesday 27-6-2012)

Both the Persian cats matata and his dam Matahari love hunting for house lizards and have successfully caught numerous lizards, tragically killing them.Matata is the most aggressive and to date has caught a few lizards of which i managed to rescue 3 till today, a "Hat-Trick" of rescue attempts which have been successful.Gecko lizards are very useful household natural pest controllers, feeding on cockroaches, flies and other insects, never of any harm to its host, the house-hold humans.My previous cat Trixie never ever hunted lizards and it perplexes me as to the reasons for a "traditional Persian cat" breed being such aggressive hunters, unlike the normal behaviour of these very docile lap cat breed.
On Wednesday evening at around 1845 hrs i suddenly noticed something dangling from Matata's mouth.On close observation realized that it was a young lizard hanging lifelessly from its jaws of death.I immediately grabbed Matata by the scruff of his neck skin and made him cough out his prey with great coaxing. On dropping the lizard to the floor i was stunned to see this tiny reptile run towards a corner minus its tail and slight bleeding near its neck.This was the third lizard that i had rescued from the jaws of Matata since his birth in my house in March 2009.I was surprised at the tenacity and the manner in which nature has created the Gecko lizard to feign death when cornered by its natural adversaries in the wild.I finally caught the lizard and released it on my house storage loft, the reptile seeming hale and hearty with a missing tail and slight scratch marks on its neck.Matata is extremely ferocious, akin to a "Big Cat" and very territorial.Hope to spot this lizard someday in my house akin to the other two rescued lizards previously.
