Arrival Story: I had Spotty's mother, Lacy. She was a horrible mother and didn't take care of her kittens at all! She totally and completely ignored them. She wouldn't even nurse them. So my husband and I became surrogate parents to a litter of 5 kittens. We cleaned their eyes, stimulated their digestion and bottle-fed them for 6 weeks. We had already decided to keep the tiger striped kitten but when it came time to find everyone a home, Spotty (so named for his half-mustache) was very obviously extremely attached to me. I couldn't bring myself to give him a new home so Spotty stayed with us. He lived for 16 wonderful, spoiled years! He was a great cat... the BEST cat.

Bio: Spotty was my talker. He would meow back to me whenever I spoke to him. He endured many moves, three of them back and forth from the coast to coast. His faith in my never waivered no matter how many times we moved, or WHERE we moved, no matter how many times his little self-centered world was turned upside-down. THen there was the time that we had to leave him in the care of my brother-in-law as we were between moves (again). Spotty was strictly an indoor cat. He was scared to death of strangers and the outdoors. One day during his stay with my brother-in-law, he somehow got outside. He undoubtedly was scared and spent his first night ever outdoors. My brother-in-law didn't call to tell me that my Pobber was outside. On the day that we went to collect Spotty, my bro-in-law finally confessed. I was furious and heartbroken as many weeks had gone by. My husband and I went door to door with Spotty's photo. Finally, a woman said that she HAD seen him... that a lady down the street had been feeding him but she MOVED and took Spotty with her!! I was devastated!! The woman said she would try to find out where the woman had moved to. She called me a couple of days later and gave me the new address of the woman who had taken my Spotty with her. She had moved to Lee, New Hampshire. I called the woman, described my cat and told her what had happened. She invited me to come get MY CAT. My husband and I drove to NH where we found Spotty huddled under a bed, scared out of his mind. It took him a long time to get over his "kidnapping".
He also seemed to know that Momma would take care of any strays because he always brought home strays and kittens. He helped care for them. His favorite time of day was it was FOOD time. According to him, I was to feed him at PROMPTLY 4:00 AM and PROMPTLY at 5 PM. In the morning, he would sit outside my bedroom door and MEOW very loudly until I woke up and fed him. And at 4:55 PM, he would start prowling the kitchen and meowing loudly. Yes, Spotty, the whole damn world DID revolve around YOU! :-) Losing Spotty was like losing my own flesh and blood child. I cried long and hard. Photos of him grace my walls. I still sometimes, think I see him out of the corner of my eye and I spin around but there is nothing there. I swear I have heard him meowing in his demanding way. As much as "Momma's Pobber" is gone, he is still with me, within me. I know that he is waiting for me at the Rainbow Bridge and someday, on my way to Eternal Life, I will stop by the Rainbow Bridge, gather Spotty in my arms and once again his loud purr will be the song in my ears. I miss him terribly. The emptiness in my heart and life is filled with the many, many memories... 16 years worth of them.
