In Germany this week, 39-year-old Uwe Mitzscherlich married his dying cat Cecilia in a faux ceremony. It’s not legal to marry animals in Germany (is there anywhere that it is legal??), but Mitzscherlich was eager to commit to the asthmatic cat before she went to the Bridge.
The groom and “bride” have lived together for ten years. “Cecilia is such a trusting creature. We cuddle all the time and she has always slept in my bed,” Mitzscherlich, a postman from the eastern town of Possendorf, told Bild newspaper.
“Our hearts beat as one — it’s unique!”
The groom’s twin brother Erik served as witness. Mitzscherlich paid actress Christin-Maria Lohri 300 euros (about $395) to purrform as officiant for the ceremony. “At first I thought it was a joke,” said Lohri. “But for Mr Mitzscherlich it’s a dream come true.”
