We live in a temperate climate, but even so, my husband spent six months luring our little black scaredy-cat feral into a heated cat cup in the garage to keep her out of the elements. It was a huge victory when she finally embraced the cup as her own. Hubby still insists he’s “not a cat person.” Feral kitty eventually became Not-so-Feral Kitty after that act of kindness.
Providing an outdoor enclosure for ferals isn’t always easy. Neighborhood cat haters may object to them as being unsightly, and it requires patience to acclimate the ferals to the habitat. A line of catnip or treats leading inside the enclosure can lure them in, and once they feel safe, they will make it their home.
If the feral colony does not reside on your property, it may have to be done surreptitiously. Perhaps you just want to provide shelter for neighbor cats who are left outdoors in frigid conditions, or a warm safe place for a pregnant queen to give birth. A new product, KatKabin, is a purrfect solution in any of those scenarios.
The KatKabin outdoor cat house is a unique and innovative cat shelter that provides your cat with all the warmth, comfort & safety it is used to indoors.
Standing above the ground, it provides a warm, cozy and shaded insulated den for napping, stretching and relaxing. Your cat is protected from the weather in a sturdy and purpose-made home. The opening also has a conventional clip-on cat flap that can be attached or removed depending on the season or your cat’s preference.
Even though it’s designed as an outdoor shelter, it’s also a stylish addition to your living environment for pampered indoor cats.
It’s available in your choice of six designer colors; Hot Pink (the best color on earth), Spring Green (blends into vegetation), Chocolate Brown (blends into vegetation if everything’s dead), Royal Blue, Starlet Red, and Divine Purple (which is truly divine).
Add-ons are available for an extra charge (not included in this giveaway):
If you live in a rainy area, you probably need to place the KatKabin in an area that offers both a platform above the ground and a covering overhead. The cabin is set up above the ground by a couple of inches, but could get flooded in a torrential downpour. I’d also recommend placing it under an overhang or other sheltered area because even with the doorflap closed, it’s possible rain could blow in. With that said, under normal weather conditions, the KatKabin is pretty weatherproof.
And did I mention it’s just so darned CUTE!
The Cat’s Meow has published instructions for building a low-cost DIY cat shelter, but if you never got around to it, are not “handy,” or just plain forgot, here’s your chance to win a free KatKabin cat shelter in your choice of colors (of course, we chose hot pink — and it’s GORGEOUS!). Two-door models are available, although we are giving away the one-door model.
You can check out the entire product line here.
