Whenever we get a new rug — for the bathroom, for the kitchen by the sink, or maybe for the foyer — there’s a good chance a cat will “claim” it. And that’s fine. (Usually.) Cats claim rugs. And even when we’re carrying a hot skillet from the stove to the sink, and the cat is busy claiming that rug (and also trying to claim our balance and coordination) we forgive the little buggers because, well, that’s what cats do. And that’s why we love them. (Usually.)
Here’s a rug (that’s called a blanket) for a cat to claim that won’t cause any problems with balance and coordination (as long as you put it in the right place). And it’s built for a cat. Literally. It’s the Faux Bearskin Blanket from Canadian company Loyal Luxe.
The piece is a “playful reinterpretation of another classic symbol of Canadian iconography,” the company site says. “The traditional bearskin rug and famous plaid material are transformed into an irresistible security blanket.”
Well, we see it more as a “dominance blanket,” but similar idea. (Mostly.)
And because it’s a blanket, it can go on the sofa or bed as well as the floor — wherever your kitty might want to claim. It’s available in a number of iterations, with darker faux fur as well as a floral pattern in addition to the plaid.
Loyal Luxe says the rug/blanket will fit small dogs, too, and at first that gave us pause. But think about it: If you’re not sure your cat will like it, tell him it’s made for a dog — he’ll be sure to claim it.
