Janine Kahn

Janine is Catster’s head editor, which is a pretty way of saying “chief pet content whip-snapper.” In previous career incarnations, she held web editor positions at Village Voice alternative newsweeklies (including SF Weekly and OC Weekly), the Los Angeles Times, and USC’s Online Journalism Review. She has several pompous-sounding awards from her journalism days in a box in her storage unit, but thinks it’s way more impressive that she has her dog tattooed on her skin in three different locations.

Full Name (Including Embarrassing Second Names): Janine Marie Pueo Kahn

 Age: 28 going on 40

Location: San Francisco, CA (but born and raised in Manila, Philippines)

Where You Can Stalk Me on the Internet: Twitter

What I Do for a Living: I assign, edit, and curate copy and diplomatically boss my minions around. I also co-star with my boss in this web mini-series about dogs (what else?!).

What I Do for Fun: I spend my evenings obsessing over tomorrow’s headlines, planning new tattoos, searching for Lulu Guinness dog-themed purses on eBay, and posting photos of my fur child on Instagram.

The Furry Members of My Household Are: Moxie (four-pawed) and Jeffrey (two-legged)

My Favorite Things to Write Are: Personal, bleeding-heart narratives; ridiculous listicles; general tomfoolery

My Pet Peeves Are: People who misappropriate apostrophes; bigots and homophobes; anyone who asks me if my Italian Greyhound is a Whippet

My Guilty Pleasures Are: Buying cute things I don’t need, buying my dog cute things he doesn’t need, answering work e-mail on vacation, snacking on marshmallows

How I Deal with Dog/Cat Hair: My dog doesn’t shed very much, and when he does we rarely notice because all our furniture is the same shade he is.

What I Want to Be When I Grow Up: When I was a kid I thought I’d be a Broadway actress when I grew up. But this was before I learned that the stage is a cold, cruel mistress.
