Cats purr for a number of reasons. Izzie purrs when he's scared, for instance, as well as when he's happy. When he was neutered, the technician commented more than once that the whole time he was in the cage "waking up", he was purring like crazy. She was so proud of herself for treating him so well, I didn't have the heart to tell her that he purrs when he's scared spitless as well as happy. Cats can change their attitudes toward things just like people do. If she's in a particularly good or affectionate mood, this may be why she's purring. However, if you notice any other different or strange behaviors, it's time to call the vet for their advice.

My cat always purrs when he eats (because he LOVES food). However, cats may purr when in pain to soothe themselves, so watch her closely... if you see any other symptoms that suggest she might be having trouble with eating, take her in to the vet. It could be anything from mouth ulcers to more serious issues.
