Why does my cat walk over to where I'm standing, sit down in front of me, with his back facing me? (Facing outwards)

He does this with other people in the house as well.

He may just be watching out for "predators" or someone he thinks might bring you harm. If you watch Animal Planet and other shows that might feature a pride of lions, they seldom lay or sit facing each other, they are constantly on guard for interesting or dangerous situations.
