why does my cat sit on her butt with her hind legs in front of her

It's just the way she sits. When we got our puppy, some of the pups sat with their back legs out to the left and some with them out to the right. Cady has sat that way all her life, very seldom "switching sides". The breeder told us that it's like a person being right or left handed. However, if you notice that your cat is having difficulty walking or limps, you may want to check with her vet to make sure there are no spinal problems.

She is probably trying to clean out her glands. Cats have glands in their butts and if it has been over a month since you have cleaned her glands she will do that behavior.
