Why does my 5 year old male cat meow and cry constantly for me, even when I'm RIGHT there? I can barely take it anymore!
I have a 5 year old male cat who I have had since he was a kitten. I also have his "sister" from the same litter. My female cat is quiet as a mouse and seeks minimal attention, just a little petting here and there. Tom, my male cat, however, cries NONSTOP! He's been this way for as long as I can remember. I asked the vet about it when I had him in for urine crystals and to have him neutered. She said it may calm down after he was neutered but it never stopped. He cries at me when I'm in bed, especially in the morning, knocking things off of my nightstand, and then my desk until I get up. But I get up and feed him, clean the litter and he continues to howl THE most annoying meow you've ever heard. He'll stand in the middle of the room when I'm at my desk or doing other things and just meow, even as I take time to pet and scratch his belly for a bit. I ignore him as much as possible, but its at a point where my friends can't even stand him when they come over. Help me!!

You may have answered your own question when you stated that you "ignore him as much as possible". Do you play with him as much as possible? Cuddle and groom him? Do your friends greet and play with him if he's interested? Cats from the same litter seldom have the same personality, and your Tom may have gotten all the social genes. Assuming you've had him at the vet and his health is OK, I'd say he is meowing and crying for your attention. Try ramping up your playtimes with him and including cuddling and grooming sessions as well. Even if he's short-haired, he'll still appreciate the grooming and attention.
