It is said that cat affection can be rated this way: male neutered cats first, spayed females next, unspayed females, and then unneutered males. Having said that, it all depends on the individual cat. In my personal experience, I find that my male cats--both moggie and purebred Maine Coons--are friendlier than the females, whether spayed or unspayed. Whether there is an an actual scientific explanation for this, I don't know. But I will say that the next time I get a cat, it will be a male.

I believe that cuddliness is how you raise them combined with their own personality. All of my cats are spayed females. My two Himmy girls are very different from one another. Chelsea, is cuddly but only likes to be held for a few minutes. But she comes running when you call her name and loves to be picked up for her cuddles. You have to understand Chelsea to appreciate her. Kira is so lovable that she even purred for the vet tech and snuggled up to her neck in the hospital after major ear surgery. Everybody loves my Kira. But she's also a little nutty and gets into more trouble than the other cats. There's really no guarantee what you're going to get with male vs female or even between different females. Whichever one you choose, just hold them and love them and get them used to being groomed and handled daily. They have high maintenance fur so you need to spend a lot of time with them.
