When will my kittens be comfortable around us?

We got our 9 week old kittens last saturday. They are comfortable being stroked when they are sleepy or relaxed but not at at any other point. If we walk past them they dash away like they don't know who we are. Will this change? When will they become happy being around us? We play games with them and they happily climb over us to get the mouse-on-a-string and we've spend a lot of time with them. As first time kitten owners, any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Kittens are extremely playful, and trying to pet them when they are frisky is useless. Just play with them and enjoy them being rambunctious... in a few years their main activity will be sleeping. They are not dogs looking for attention each minute, so don't expect that. Also, you got two instead of one, which lessens the chance for individual bonding with you because they have each other. This should change over time, but you have to give it time, at least until they are fixed at age 6 months. Until then, it's frisky play with toys time!! Feed a healthy kitten food during their first year like Natural Choice brand wholesome essentials in chicken. ^_^
