Hi Gayle,

Welcome to Catster! There are various costs to adopting cats, because everyone has their own idea of what a small adoption fee is. If it's a cat from a shelter, the fee can be $100 or over, but this usually covers first shots, sometimes spay/neuter, and blood tests for basic illnesses (FIV/FELV). If it's an adoption from a private home (like me), then it can be whatever the foster parent thinks is reasonable. You'll just need to ask around when you see a cat you like in the adoption center. Costs will vary widely depending on what's included, so ask about special diets, vet testing that's already been done, spaying/neutering, what the cat comes with (food, litter, toys, etc.), if it has breeding papers. Hope this helps!

Gus

It normally depends on the shelter, cat, etc...
A great website to try is www.petfinder.com
We found our first cat on that website at For Cat's Sake in Wisconsin. Gus was 7 and had a supposed Urinary Tract disease (has never needed his meds) and was 50 dollars.

Good Luck!
