Marty

What is older cat saying to younger cat when they catfight?

My name is Marty (I'm a baby), I have a big brother Muffin who's a year old. I love to catfight with Muffin, I love to jump on him and bite him and I pester him constantly. Muffin makes these wierd low trilly sound when I catfight with him. Muffin doesn't try to get away, he mostly licks me and it makes me mad, I want Muffin to fight like a man (catman) but he just licks me and makes that trilly noise. What does that mean?

Well, this isn't much of an answer, but Muffin's just showing you that he doesn't mind your babyish playing (probably he secretly likes it because, at one, he's still part kitten himself). You're lucky that you're not REALLY catfighting, although I understand your desire to have kitty play fights. As for that low trilly noise...Having looked at Muffin's picture, I have to say that he looks like an absolutely typical domestic short hair--if he has any Maine Coon blood in him, it isn't visible in his appearance. I would assume that the trilling is different from the Maine Coon meow. Having said that, I don't know what it means; he could be trying to teach you something ("Big cats like me don't fight that way anymore!"), or just telling you he likes you. If it were an angry noise, your Meowmy would probably know. By the way, Marty, you are an absolute SWEETIE!!!

It sounds as if Muffin is mature enough to play with a very young kitten like you.Not many cats would be that nice like him,as most of them might fight with you with bad results.

If your pawrent believes that you are bored because Muffin doesn't want to play with you, a good idea would be to adopt another kitten which will be at your age.

Izadore (Izzie)

Your ears are too young and tender for me to translate what Muffin is saying ;-) Izzie STILL jumps on me and he's been here for a year. I yell and growl and then when he walks away, I follow him and try to get him to play some more. On his page, you can see the two of us sleeping in *my* bed together. We'd just gotten done play-fighting and then bathing each other. If Muffin is any part Maine Coon, that's probably why he "trills". Both Izzie and my big sisfur Delilah do that and they are part Maine Coon. Anyway, it sounds like you and Muffin have a pretty good relationship just like me and Iz.

Willow bites my neck and jumps on me, she's younger than me and thinks I'm a challenge to be taken on, but I let her do it and then make funny noises too, especially when she gets me on the neck! Do you seize Muffin by the neck too?
When I make noises its usually "Oi, that's enough now.. its getting uncomfortable." If she bites me harder, I scream, but I never bite back. I might snap or swat her, but she's just a little girl...
I lick her lots and it really annoys her when I sniff her back too, she likes to punch me when I do that!
