What is in carrots that cats love?
My male cat loves carrots. Not to eat, but to rub around around and nuzzle and cuddle. He rolls over them and purrs like crazy. As soon as he hears the carrots being cut, he comes running through the house and into the kitchen and waits until he gets a piece to love.

That is REALLY funny! There must be something in the carrot that works on your kitty like catnip. Carrots are cheaper than catnip, so consider yourself lucky! A friend on this board had a cat who reacted that way to green beans!

Hmm...let's ignore any Freudian implications, and just say that, as Izzie opines, there must be some chemical that he's responding to. Cats are weird. The famed Baby Palusky, who's on Catster, had a thing for olives and the liquid they were packed in...and lived to be 38. My former cat Botchan used to go crazy over radish greens, although that makes more sense than carrots because cats eat grass in the wild which helps with their digestion (usually by making them puke)--and Botchan ate the greens, while your cat just, er, has a meaningful relationship with his vegetable of choice. (The part about "waits until he gets a bit to love" is precious.) I just checked a list of common human foods that are toxic to cats, and carrots aren't on it, although (as you may probably know) onions, chocolate, and a few other things are. Bon appetit!

LOL that is funny! I've never heard of a carrot-loving-cat! Garfield won't even try to eat carrots he just sits there and stars at it.
