As someone who lives in an area surrounded by barns and farms, I can tell you that your mother and sister aren't the first people to think it's a great idea to dump cats out in the sticks. Sadly, most of the dumped cats don't have the skills necessary to survive and end up dead on the side of the road or starving in a field. It's a myth that cats are always self-sufficient, and it's also inaccurate that a farm will automatically be a good place for them. If, as strays, they have adapted to their current environment and developed survival skills, those skills will not necessarily transfer to an unfamiliar new environment.
It concerns me that their reason for wanting to dump these cats is that they are carrying diseases. This means that there is potential for them to introduce these diseases to other unprotected cats.
These cats don't deserve to be dumped OR shot. What your mother and sister are considering is cruel. Please follow Joey's advice, and contact your local ASPCA for help.
This can only happen if you let it. It is against the law to do what your mom and sister are suggesting. It is considered animal abuse, neglect and/or abandonment. Tell them if they do this, you will report them to the local authorities, and then do it.
