Cats require a balance of vitamins and minerals not very similar to the nutritional needs of a human. Home cooking for cats can be dangerous and lead to dietary deficiencies unless you really know what you are doing, and since cat foods are guaranteed to meet a cat's nutritional needs, there is little reason to risk it. Kittens in particular have special dietary requirements to ensure proper growth and development. Please feed your cat a kitten-specific cat food formula until he is at least a year old.

Check out the Catster forum called "Home Prepared Food & Recipes" which should give you some good ideas for food and treats that you can make.

I feed regular commercial food most of the time but occaisonally cook them food as a treat. I've found that simple is best and their favorites are lightly boiled/poached chicken or chicken livers. Just use water and the chicken/livers and don't add any salt or spices or veggies or garlic. This is their favorite treat and they meow and squeak around my ankles as I dish it up and serve it to them warm. They love lapping up the broth too even though it tastes bland and nasty to us.

It may be fun, but "home cooking" isn't necessarily healthy for your cat. Cats have VERY sensitive tummies, and many of our most common people ingredients are poisonous to them. Your kitten will be satisfied with a nice healthy kitten chow and lots of love from you, I promise. They really like the stuff, and it does feel to them like they're being pampered. Your home cooking, wonderful as I'm sure it is, should go in YOUR tummy, not his. He can watch you eat, but table scraps are a nono.
