Making the cats wait longer to be fed when they're that hungry will only make them even more prone to fighting over food. Most hungry animals including cats will try to defend food from another animal. I free choice feed my cats dry food in multiple dishes and they never fight over food. Cats rarely overeat. You might try free choice feeding your cats so they can eat enough to be satisfied and don't get that desperately hungry.
