Because it is hot, tender and swollen that means there is an infection and he probably has an abscess. You need to take him to a vet and they can drain the abscess and give him antibiotics to treat the infection.

your kitty needs to go to the vet. I don't know what it is, but a vet can diagnois the problem and give him proper medication. He needs to go as soon as possible, this sounds very serious.

This sounds like an emergency trip to the vet! If your cat goes outside, it could have gotten in a fight and maybe another cat (?) scratched his face/eye where it is swollen. It needs to be seen by a vet and treated. Hope he is okay.

Purrs. HOW did this happen? Is your cat an indoor/outdoor kitty? Or--and this occasionally happens--was there an aggressive human being involved? By all means take your cat to the vet NOW. But if there is any possibility that feline/human violence was involved, PLEASE consider how to protect your cat in the future. And if there is the possibility of human violence being involved (yes, paranoid moment)get rid of whoever may have harmed your cat. Prayers, purrs, head bonks.
