Should I be concerned about an Upper Respiratory Infection that has been going on for a wk? Cat still eating/drinking.
Mom took me to the vet about a week ago because I was acting very sleepy, and as I'm FeLV-positive, she's extremely cautious about my health. The vet told us that I have an upper respiratory infection - my third eyelid was showing slightly, and I had a 104-degree fever. He gave us amoxicillin, but did not seem overly alarmed, which put Mom at ease.
I've been eating, drinking, using the litter box, and going about my normal "routine" this entire time - including following Mom around and purring when appropriate . My fever has gone down slightly (around 103-ish) and my third eyelid is no longer out and about.
However, I'm still very sleepy, and it's giving my mom a lot of anxiety. The vet wants to see me Tuesday (perhaps to prescribe a stronger antibiotic?).
Have any of you had a URI that has lasted for a week or two? Other than looking a little tired and sleeping a lot, I seem to be ok - but Mom is still really worried and would like some reassurance.
Thanks!

Hi Smoky and Mom! I am so sorry about your diagnoses, but you have a wonderful mom who knows that you need extra care. Being tired and having a fever is a sign of your disease and also of a URI. When you get sick with something, because you have FeLV, it's worse than for a "regular" kitty and sometimes it takes a little longer to go away. If you're eating, that's a great sign that you aren't congested because cats won't eat what they can't smell. Trust in your doctor to do the best they can for you. We're purring for you, but you seem to be doing OK. Let us know what your doc says tomorrow!
