Whenever there is a sudden change in behavior, we always recommend at least a call to your vet for their advice. Without a second by second accounting of your hubby's life since Emma started this, it's difficult to guess what could have set her off. It could even be a change in aftershave,if he's spending time someplace where he's bringing home to scent of another cat, or if he's recently begun discipling her for something. She could also have developed a physical sensitivity to wherever he's petting her. That's why you need to check with her vet, to make sure she hasn't been injured or have other health issues. If she's content just to be close to him without being touched, advise him to NOT touch her. When he wants to get up, just have him move and tell her calmly to "get down" without pushing her off or otherwise touching her. If she checks out at the vet's, then your husband will just have to take this "hands-off" approach until her mood swings back to wanting to be petted again.
