Why hasn't animal control come out and trapped the raccoons? Has anyone reported this to the authorities? You never know - the raccoons could be rabid!!!

Guest is right. Unfortunately, by putting out food for the cats, you are also attracting the racoons. If there are lots of both on your property, it might not be a bad idea to contact a local animal welfare organization to try to trap the cats, have them neutered/spayed/vaccinated and then returned to your property. Most cities have a "TNR" program now. You can find out about it by contacting your animal control officer through your local police department.
