Precious, my 15 mo. old female cat, indoor only, is VERY SKINNY due to very poor appetite. PLEASE HELP!
She refuses to eat more than just a little bit at meals! She's 5.5 pounds now. Indoor ONLY Ragamuffin. Her sister is fine, eats same canned food well. Took skinny Precious to vet, who did blood test, said thyroid OK, checked stool for parasites (none found), but gave me deworming med (just in case), and said bad appetite was almost certainly due to her not being spayed. I've always only fed her canned food, various flavors, then she stopped liking them. Changed flavors, brands, same thing. Changed to human canned tuna--she loved that for a few days, now picks at it, too. Tried feeding her by hand, doesn't work. I never feed her human food; she doesn't like it. Still playful, but skin and bones. No other symptoms and even more klingy and affectionate than ever--follows me everywhere, lies on my chest 10 times a day. Never complains, rarely meows. I'm VERY concerned. Is vet right? Any ideas, suggestions? For now, how do I force feed a cat with claws and teeth and get out alive?

I am very skinny, too but y vet says I am in very good health, just a runt from birth. I am 2+ yars old and only weigh 6 pounds. Mr. riggles is also 2 ad weighs amost 20 #s.
And I am a very pickey eater, too. Our mum feeds us 2 times a day, about 1/3 cup dry food at a time. My brufer is very big and our vet says he has to lose some weight. we both eat the same and we don't get any snacks except for 1 spoonful cannd food as a dessert. Some of those we definitey do not like and some we do.
We definitely would trust your vet. DO not try to force feed your girl,it would make problems worse. We have our likes and dislikes, our suggestion would be to buy quaility hi protein moist foods and offer just a spoonful at a time. She sounds finicky and will tire easily of the same thing every day. Why not try one in the morning and a different one every night - maybe try feeding a lttle bit 3 - 4 times a day.
We hope you can find some foods she likes.
Read labels and avoid corns and grains.

If you are afraid she is not getting enough nutrients, ask your vet for a can of Hill's A/D. It is prescription and high in calories. Your vet should also have Nutrical, a gel that can be added to the food to help boost nutrients. Some cats are just skinny, but there could also be an underlying cause. Do you know what type of blood test your vet did? Have you had her tested for Feline Leukemia and FIV? Being underweight is not a typical symptom for either of those diseases, but sometimes they can manifest themselves in unusual ways, and it's always a good test to do anyway.
The real time to worry is if she is losing weight. Has she always been this thin? If she was bigger at one time, then the weight loss would be a great cause for concern and a clear indication of an underlying cause.
Take care!
