Penny wants to eat only the Greenies cat food treats. How do we get him to eat cat food instead of treat food? He will
I am a 6 year old male domestic tabby, indoor cat. And I don't like wet food and I am very picky with dry food. All I want to eat are Greenie's and I don't want the Evo cat food or anything else.

Welcome to the club. Most of us here on Catster will agree that our cats are ALL picky eaters. But, the bottom line is, as long as you feed Penny "Greenies" as the staple of his diet,he'll turn his nose up at any food. Trust that he will not let himself starve. He doesn't "need" wet food and can survive on dry food. Choose a good quality dry, as good as you can afford, put it in a bowl and put it out for him. Withhold any treats, people food, anything but the food in the bowl and some fresh water. I can almost guarantee you that within a day or so, Penny will be more than happy to nom on the dry food in the bowl.

a tirck that works on my cats is that i would put a few "greenies" in the dry food and walk away if he comes after you and asks for more you ignore him i dont know if this works on other cats i just know that it works on my cats just gradually stop putting the "greenies" in his cat food he will hopefully get the hint that he is suposed to eat the dry cat food and stop asking for the treats

Last year, my Chelsea decided that she didn't like what I was feeding them and lost so much weight that we did a ton of labwork before we realized it was just the food she hated. What I did was to try several kinds in a row of bowls and I let her choose which she preferred. Right now, she really loves the Royal Canin that I am using but I continue to offer Natural Balance in some bowls too so I can be sure the whole family is happy. I would try whatever flavor of the Greenie's that Penny likes as the main ingredient of the food you try. So if he likes salmon Greenies, try a food made with salmon and if he likes chicken Greenies, try a food made with chicken. You can also try putting some kibble in a baggie and keeping it where you keep the treats. Then when he asks for treats, offer him a bite of his regular food instead to try to introduce him to something other than the Greenies all the time.

I'd live on Greenie treats, Salmon Flavor! YUM YUM! But my Humans don't let me. I agree with other answers that if you just put out dry, and don't let him have Greenies (except as a "Good Cat" treat, he'll eventually eat his dry food. I try not to be picky, but some foods make me sick. My Humans have finally learned that if I try a little bit and then don't want to eat it, making me eat it is typically going to make for one STINKY MESSY in the litter box! PHEW! I tried to tell them, but Humans aren't very bright sometimes... You might check the ingredients on your dry food to see how close they are to Greenie Treats- some kitties don't digest soy or corn very well. I like Royal Canin for my dry food and Purina One Tuna for my 'dinner treat'.
