Agreed with the above. The reason you call the vet is that you want advice on what to do, as well as maybe wanting to get the kitty x-rayed to determine how much string she ate, and so forth.

Having a stringy foreign body in her can be a big problem. It could cause an obstruction, or it could damage her intestines. It is something to be taken extremely seriously (and we speak from experience of having a cat who has a habit of ingesting things she should not).

Call the vet! DO NOT pull it out because you do not know how long it is. It may be wrapped up in her intestines and it can cut them open if you pull it. Unless she sees the vet, it may cause some serious damage.

Yes, do not pull it or cut it. She needs to go to the vet so they can determine the next step to take. If it is a string it could cause alot of damage. If your cat has worms, it could also look like a string coming out of her anus too. In which case you would still need to see a vet so they can diagnose what type of worm it is and prescribe a treatment. good luck!

Jasper-in loving memory

Just a thought-has your cat had an opportunity to swallow any foreign objects? Because one I had, long ago, used to eat the "icicles" from the Christmas tree, and she would have them coming out of her anus. It scared us, until we realized what it was.

But, you'll still have to take her to the vet! If you don't know what it is, it could be almost anything small enough for a cat to swallow, and have a stringy side to it. Or, it could be a sign of something more serious. Don't take chances removing it yourself-you may hurt her more, and/or something may go untreated. Tell the vet what she may have eaten-anything unusual, she didn't even have to be outside your house, any unusual behavior-just to help him. But, he's the one who who can decide how to proceed.

Good luck!

Just like everycat said
Call the vet! This happened to me a couple monthes ago. I ate a balloon string and mom seen it hanging out. I passed some of it but mom freaked out and called the vet. They told her DO NOT PULL! It will cause intestional issues like an accordian affect.

Gordy was fine but boy did we learn our lesson. Lucky for us it didn't get wrapped around in his intestions. It was in small peices so he could pass them.

You kitty may need surgery but bring him to the vet ASAP.

Good luck!
