Noticed today that my cat Camelot has a small sore near his ear, what could it be?
From the look of the sore, it seems that my Cat has been scratching it and looks like it could be infected. Unfortunately I am unable to get to a vet at the moment, what should I do?
Here's a link to a picture that I took:

Thank you and hope to hear back soon :)

Looks like there's some pus and the whole thing looks kind of dirty. For now I think the best thing you can do is gently clean the area with a cottonball and hydrogen peroxide a few times a day but you really should have it looked at by a vet ASAP, especially if it swells any bigger than half a marble. Cats that get puncture wounds will abscess much more quickly and severely than most other species because their skin heals too fast and traps bacteria deep in the wound, it can quickly turn into a life threatening infection. Another thing it might be looking at the picture is warble- a bot fly larve (maggot) under the skin. If that white spot that looks like pus is kind of under the skin and won't wipe off or wriggles around a little? Yeah, very gross! They are dangerous to remove on your own and can also cause an abscess. There is a 24 emergency clinic in Burlington if you can't get an appointment-

Camelot's sore looks like the beginning of an abcess, and those are never fun for cats. If you can't take him to the vet, you need to clean the area like Moggie said. However, I would not use hydrogen peroxide because contrary to popular believe, it is not effective in healing wounds after multiple uses. Clean the wound with soap and water first, then dry it and use hydrogen peroxide, but only once. Multiple uses renders it ineffective and may not allow it to heal as well or as quickly. After that, keep an eye on the wound site and make sure to keep it clean. If it looks like it's not healing well, you need to make an appointment and get him to the vet.
