Nick the 20 pound cat has been successfully trained to pee in the toilet but he has not stopped drinking from it!
He doesn't drink from it when there is pee in it but still! How do I convince him that its only for peeing?

Is there any reason that you want your cat eliminating in the toilet (other than for your convenience?) Cats really do prefer to dig and bury their feces and urine so in the long run toilet training is an invitation for improper elimination.
As for teaching him not to drink out of the toilet, honestly, I doubt you can break that habit. Try offering a pet fountain or varying types of water bowl/fountain options in the house. Never use automatic toilet cleaners (the drop or hang in things) either. If he drinks out of it, you want it to be safe!

Sully is right about not being able to convince Nick not to drink out of the toilet bowl. Some animals just see it as a convenient source of water that's always there. Toilet bowl cleaners all carry a warning that they can be toxic to pets. Unless you keep the lid down, he's going to use it as a water bowl. Gross, but a fact of life for us who are owned by pets.
