I have two 1 1/2 year old male (brothers) domestic shorthairs; I adopted them from the local animal shelter one year ago. They’re normally pretty social, happy cats, and spend 90% of their day on my bed or in one of my many big windowsills. Every night when I come home from work, they are always in the one living room window that faces the steps where I walk down to go down into my apartment. ALWAYS.

A few days ago, they BOTH started hiding, and are NEVER in the window when I come home from work. Tiger hides under the bed, and Scary hides in a little cubbyhole, crying constantly. They are eating way less too.

What on earth could possibly have caused them both to be so anti-social and scared all of a sudden? Nothing in their environment has changed. I’m really worried. Could they be depressed or stressed? They’re due for an annual check up and vaccinations, so I’ll definitely as the vet. However, I’d appreciate any advice anyone has in the mean time.

Thanks so much,
Fred

Has anyone been doing any loud work around your apartment lately such as putting on a new roof or something like that? That may be freaking them out. You haven't changed their food, moved stuff around or had any new company over lately have you? If so, they probably don't like it. If nothing has changed, perhaps they are sick & they need to see a vet soon.
