Forgive me for being a smarty-pants, but maybe you are meeting all his needs and he has nothing to say! ;-) As far as his voicebox being removed, of course anything is possible and as a former animal welfare volunteer, I've seen most of it unfortunately. Your vet could find a scar. You don't say how long you've had him, but he may not want to meow to call attention to himself. Is he shy in other ways? You say he purrs, so he must be comfortable in some situations. If he eats, swallows and otherwise seems healthy, I wouldn't worry. Some people write us because they feel their cats are too vocal. If you ever got another cat, you might find your Meezer may suddenly become very vocal. And, if he hasn't been to the vet's, it might not be a bad idea to take him in for a well-cat exam just to make sure there are no nodules or growths in his throat although I doubt there are.

I've never heard of vets removing cats' voice boxes. However, Siamese are typically very vocal cats, so maybe somebody got fed up with him and got him operated on (which I'm not sure is possible), or throttled him and broke his larynx. A number of physical conditions--infections of various sorts, etc.--can cause a cat to lose its voice. If you haven't had this checked out yet by your vet, please do so, because he may have something that is curable (on the other hand, he's been this way for three years...). Ask your vet--he/she will at least be able to determine if there's been any physical damage to the voice box.

I had a little Persian cat growing up, that only squeaked, never meowed, and that was on a rare occasion. No reason, she was just quiet. She purred, coughed, and hissed, so the vet said she was fine. Since your kitty was found by you, you could take him to the vet just to be sure nothing is wrong, but he may just be quiet Siamese (if that's even possible).

You don't say if he is fixed, but if he is and it wasn't too long ago that he was, then the breathing tube the vet put in could have scratched his throat. Before that he could just have been quiet.
